Labyrinth II

A traditional labyrinth was designed with stones on the chruch hall floor. Most lights were put out but alot of candles were lit. With meditative music continually in the background, people were invited to pilgrimmage round the labyrinth individually.

For information on the history of labyrinths and their contemporary meaning go to Gracecom.

There were a number of stations around the pathway and people were each invited to follow through the instructions, unpacking their anxieties and hurts and baggage as they moved towards the centre and a place of peace and rest. Then picking up the stuff of light, they progressed from the centre outwards again. These are just some of the stations.

Entering

Written at the entrance of the Labyrinth

Air is everywhere
We tear through it each day
We gulp it down every minute
We dance in it throughout our lives
And we take little notice.

But now, take some Holy Time
For yourself
And become alive to the air
And it's vocation
Feel your breathing
Feel the breath of your life

In, Out
In, Out
In, Out

Each draught of air is a welcoming of the Divine
Filling
Flooding
Favouring you

It is the Spirit

Enjoy her
Drowse in her
Carry her with you on your journey
She will never empty
She is as close as each breath
She is each breath
She is the strong one
The comforting one
The helper

Go now with her
Into yourself
And eternity

Confession

Computer CD's were placed in a basket. At this station each pilgrim was asked to take a marker pen and follow the instructions

What do you think of yourself?
What image of yourself do you carry round with you?

Pick up a CD and look at your reflection.

You see your face, your looks, your style.

But what's on the inside that the mirror lies about?
What is that burden only you notice?
What is that anxiety only you can see?

Take the pen and write it on the mirror side.

Take your time.

Now you've opened up what's inside.
When you look at yourself now, you see the real you.

Now put it in your pocket.

Carry it with you a while.

Be open to who you really.

This is confession.

Forgiveness

Later around the labyrinth there was a post box and envelopes.

Take the CD you've been carrying with you.

Take an envelope and slip the CD into it.

Seal it.

Write God's address on the front.

Post it.

You've got rid of that anxiety.

It is now God's

Intercessions

Pens and paper were placed at a station.

Be creative

What has God done for you?
What difference has it made

Draw a picture of the new hope

Be bold
Be honest
Be risky

Once you have drawn it, be it symbol, art, words, leave it behind as a footprint in the world and so others can share the vision, the hope, the reality of the Kingdom.

Sending Out

A basket of candles were placed at the exit of the labyrinth along with a lit candle and these words:

Please take a candle.

Light it

You have gone through the labyrinth
You have seen and felt more than a great number of people ever feel deep within them
You have brushed the truth of another reality
You have pilgrimaged into your soul

Take that reality of light and hope and renewal into the world

The candle you chose is a symbol of this gift.

Choose wisely
Burn brightly
Go steadily

And the Grace than comes from Jesus
The Love God summons and surrounds you with
And the Spirit, the breath of life within you
Is yours
Forever
And forever
And forever

So be it
