The Mask Symphonic consists of 70 musicians, including the Mask Orchestra, and
features the talents of two of Europe's leading female singers, Maria Pia De
Vito and Norma Winstone. It was released in the UK on 7th June 1999.
On Friday, March 13, 1998 'The Mask Symphonic' was premiered in
the sold out Queen Elizabeth Hall in London. The Mask Orchestra (featuring
the UK's top-players like Alan Skidmore, Julian Argüelles, Guy Barker,
Peter King, John Parricelli) teamed up with a complete classical orchestra
featuring some of the best British musicians from selected orchestras to
perform this masterpiece for the first time.
"I wanted to see if it was possible to bring together musicians from
different areas of music as colours on an artists palette, if you like. I
am trying to create different sound pictures without losing the excitement
and spontaneity of improvised music. This is a band that plays as one.
There is no dividing line between the classical players and the jazz
musicians. Music is music, there are no rules." COLIN TOWNS
