Eyemouth Coast Rescue Team

Eyemouth is said to be a small town, however it still manages to offer something for anyone who visits. The town is partly a fishing harbour and also a seaside town. The Rive Eye flows through the town into the north sea, the port has been extensively used during excursions into Scotland in the 1540's

Eyemouths history is built up around its fishing commuity, tragedy raising its head during the 1800's. The design of the old harbour mean that in rough water the approaches were difficulty, due to a ferocious storm that blew up it caused the death of 189 fishering including 129 of them from Eyemouth itself.

With its steep and rugged cliffs it has meant that Eyemouth has also had its share of rouges and Smugglers. Moving through the town you soon leave behind the fishing harbour and approach the sandy beach that brings so many visitors to Eyemouth year on year, the added attractions of usual seaside attractions.

Eyemouth history is plentiful, its scenary picturesque and will leave a last impression upon the visitors. Its not every day that you go to a fishing vessel and end up seeing a chinese junk moored along the jetty. (My memories now flood back to my time in Hong kong)

The Eyemouth Coastguard team are often assisted by the St Abbs team due to the work that some of the members have in their own private lives and therefore between the two teams it means that they have a very long and rugged coastline to cover. This could be from as far south as the Scottish/English border to half way to Dunbar. The Eyemouth team work well with the lifeboats from both St Abbs and Dunbar, with one of the crew filling both duties of lifeboatman and Coastguard.
