
South Queensferry Coast Rescue Team
South Queensferry Team is located within Port Edgar Marina and co-located with Granton Sector Manager. The team is trained in Mud Rescue, Cliff Rescue, Search and First Aid Trained. Vehicles based at South Queensferry are a Nissan Navara 4 x4 and Mud Rescue Trailer and also the Sector Managers Ford Focus when on duty.
Areas covered by the team are from our Station west towards Stirling covering the Forth and Clyde Canal, then east from the station towards Portobello, Port Seton and as far down as North Berwick, we also cover north of the station over the Forth and Rail bridge and have attended as far as Dundee to back up our Montrose colleagues at Dundee Airport.
South Queensferry Team is part of the old Granton sector team which consisted of South Queensferry, Granton and Fisherrow which was located at middle pier Granton, due to the large marina expansion the team moved to the current site at Port Edgar and Fisherrow was moved and co- located at Musselburgh Fire Station. The team also works, trains and attends incidents with Fisherrow and Kinghorn rescue teams.
A team of 11 Coastguard Rescue Officers are based at South Queensferry with over 75yrs experience, the team consists of Marina Staff, Baker, Accountant, Police Personnel and Delivery Drivers who are on call and respond via pagers/radios to incidents both day and night 365 days a year.
South Queensferry team attended over 55 incidents last year (2007) which range from persons stuck on Cramond Island, Missing Persons, People Stuck or Fallen From Cliffs And Broken Down Boats.
The team also work closely with both the Police, Fire and Ambulance service which cover the area and have 3 different police forces and 3 fire services in our area due to regional borders these are Lothian and Borders Police and Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue, Central Scotland Police and Central Scotland Fire and Rescue and Fife Constabulary and Fife Fire and Rescue.
Our area is covered by 2 inshore lifeboats from South Queensferry and Kinghorn, larger all weather lifeboats are based at Dunbar and Anstruther.The area is also covered by Lothian and Borders Police marine unit who use a large rib call sign SO10.Helicopters are based at RAF Boulmer in Northumberland and HMS Gannet based at Prestwick.
