2CV Desiderata

As submitted to 2CVGB News and Quack
A thought to guide you as you travel the highways and byways of life in your 2CV

Go placidly amidst the extreme noise and lack of haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence when you turn the ignition off. As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all vehicles other than Volvo Estates. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to Eurobox owners, even though dull and ignorant, they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive Volvo owners, they are vexatious to the spirit. If you compare your 2CV to other A series, you may become vain or bitter; for there will always be better or worse Twinpots than yours.

Enjoy your arriving as well as your going to. Keep interested in your 2CV however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your servicing affairs; for Citroen Main Dealers are full of trickery. But not let this blind you to what virtue there is; many 2CV specialists strive for high ideals; and everywhere kingpin replacement is full of heroism. Be yourself. Especially do not feign orthodoxy. Neither be cynical about the 2CVGB Committee. for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass. Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the remainder of your chassis to the MOT.

Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden alternator failure, and then waiting three hours for the RAC. But do not distress yourself with imaginings. Many fears are born of not finding the campsite pee hedge in the dark. Beyond a wholesome maintenance schedule be gentle with your 2CV. It is a child of the universe; no less than the Dyane or Mehari it has a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, the Hood is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with the Transport Minister, whatever you conceive him to be, and whatever your labours and aspirations in the noisy confusion of 2CV travel keep peace with your soul. With all its grid lock, parking fees and road rage it is still a beautiful world. Be careful when releasing the open window flap. Strive to be happy.
