MCC in 2003

WINTER

Our first 'Women of Faith' evening in September was a great success, with over 100 ladies gathering for a meal, and to be ministered to by Dr Sheila McLaughlan of Inverness Church of God. We had more of the same at the next big night on Friday 28th November, kicking off the festive season with a traditional Christmas Dinner. Again we were blessed by Dr Hazel Carr from Cornerstone Church, Dalgety Bay, Fife. Food, Fellowship and Faith will remain on the menu for 2004, with Rosemary McCauley from Northern Ireland speaking on Saturday March 13th.
December is Pastor Hugh Chalk's favourite month, and we had a multitude of parties, meals out, meals in, the Christmas 'Its a Wonderful Life' Mossy, Nativity plays from both the Sunday School classes and Youth Groups, Carol Services (both indoor and outdoor), a spectacular 'Stars In Your Eyes', a watchnight service and (finally) a Hogmany Ceildh!

AUTUMN
Those baptised in September receiving their certificates
Our final outdoor baptism service of the year was on September 20th at Luss, with another seven young believers entering the (chilly) waters!
As autumn rapidly approached, there was plenty going on in the dark nights and even the damp days here at MCC.
Pastor Hugh Chalk and his family returned from South Carolina after a rewarding time spent shadowing various ministries at Seacoast Church. Hugh has stepped away from his business, and commenced full time employment within the church, immediately facilitating new groups and activities to meet the increasing needs of a growing church!
The Mossy The Mossy Cafe kicked back after the holidays with a Matrix themed evening as we focussed on The Chosen One. The next evening in October was a blast off into 'Space'... pondering the wonders of the universe, and how creation confirms a Creator. In November we considered giving to others and for others, our theme tune being 'Everything I do, I do it for you' ; with a moving court room drama reminding us of the ultimate sacrifice - Jesus laying down His life for our wrong doings.

FILLED WITH THE FRUITS...

Fruit growing on the tree outside MCC for the first time
God has blessed us so much here at Mossvale Community Church in the last year. Our numbers have more than doubled, and there is an increased zeal for the things of God, brought on by the enthusiasm of many young converts and the leading of the Spirit in the lives of more mature believers. We are excited at what God is doing amongst us, and in our community. We pray that in the year to come we will come forth with even more fruits - and this has been shown quite dramatically in our church tree. This year, for the first time ever! - it has brought forth fruit!!! Philippians 1:10-11 ...that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ, being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.

PORT BAN HOLIDAY 2003

Nearly 60 of our congregation spent the first week of the school summer break having a fantastic fellowship holiday at Port Ban Holiday Park, Kilberry. We spent several days in the sun and luxury caravans, holding worship meetings, a daily kids club, and one of our most moving baptismal services ever, with eight taking the plunge. VISION FOR AUSTRIA

Gowan Wheeler, Vision For Austria May saw a return visit from Gowan Wheeler to hear of the progress since he and his wife Sarah and children moved from Musselburgh to become missionaries to Austria.
We were encouraged by their step of faith and the work that the 'Vision for Austria' network of churches are doing.
We were challenged to pray as we were educated to the spiritual needs of that nation - a country of great beauty and yet high rates of depression!

THOMAS EDGAR

Tam and Agnes Edgar On Thursday, April 17th 2003, Mossvale Community Church's most elderly member Thomas Edgar passed away in Johnstone Hospital. Tom, who was 83 had attended with his wife Agnes and daughter Janis for many years. In 1999 we had a suprise party for his 80th birthday, and ensured we celebrated with him every year afterwards.

Tom's health had been failing for many years, and he had been in hospital since Christmastime.

Tom will be especially remembered for his cuppa during the service (to help his diabetes) and as his eyesight failed, his talking watch which he would check when the sermon seemed to not be drawing to a close!

ORDINATIONS
Gary Smollen ordained as Elder Margaret Gibson ordained as Deaconess Margaret Gibson ordained as Deaconess
On Sunday February 15th March 2003 we were delighted to ordain Gary Smollen as Elder and Margaret Gibson as Deaconess. Their recognition comes after being faithful members for many years, and serving God's people. Gary's heart is for preaching and teaching, while Margaret's is for prayer and the children of the church.

MEN'S AND WOMEN'S NIGHTS
Due to requests and demands(!) we have now started seperate evening meetings for both men and women. The men will meet on Tuesdays, and have an exciting series of teaching tapes from T.D.Jakes lined up.
The women are meeting on Wednesdays, and they have been enjoying watching the 'Women of Faith' Conferences, with some of today's greatest women speakers.
The meetings are facilitated by Gary Smollen and Jeanne Chalk. All interested adults are welcome - both meetings will be based in MCC, starting at 7.30pm.

Shortroods on fire A common sight in the area around MCC. High unemployment, drug misuse, boredom, & a struggle to maintain community spirit as the high school is closed and housing is torn down. Much of Shortroods is planned for demolition & rebuilding, - empty buildings are often torched.

Pray for us as we reach out to the people of this area as they struggle to maintain identity and seek reason and purpose for their lives.

John 10:10 "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy;
I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full."
