The Trafalgar Cemetery - Gibraltar

This cemetery dates from June 1798 when it was called the Southport Ditch Cemetery, and only became known as the Trafalgar cemetery many years after the famous sea battle. In fact there is only one casualty from this conflict buried here, Captain Thomas Norman of the Royal Marines.

John BUCKLAND, Lieutenant, Royal Marine Artillery. Killed 23rd November 1810 whilst directing the howitzer boats in an attack on the enemy’s flotilla in Cadiz Bay. His fellow officer, Thomas Worth, was killed by the same shot. Erected by their brother officers as a tribute of respect to two who were the brightest ornaments of their corps.
