Tobias Bernhard was born in Munich Germany.

He has been fascinated by the underwater world since childhood and became a diver at an early age. He studied graphic design and, after travelling the world for three years worked for a design studio in Munich.

In 1991 Tobias emigrated to New Zealand where he changed his career, becoming a diving instructor. He subsequently spent some time teaching in South East Asia.

His interest in the visual arts , combined with his love of the underwater world, led him naturally to photography.

He bought his first yacht 'MV Sedate' in 1993 followed by his current boat 'MV Nexus' a specially equipped ex-fishing vessel, upon which he roams the Southern Pacific in search of Wildlife encounters.

He has had articles published in various diving publications around the world

He has spent the last six months in Tonga and plans his next trip to French Polynesia
