Attainment Targets for Music to download
I'm not sure who actually wrote the Key Stage level descriptors for music. It is clear, however, that they like long, convoluted sentences. Is anyone actually supposed to understand them?
The trick of writing gobbledygook is to make it appear to mean something so that the reader feels inferior for failing to understand what is being said. When one looks closely at the level descriptors there are meanings there, but they are ambiguous, in my opinion.
You can download my attempt to put the Attainment Targets for Music in 'pupil speak'. I know that several people have tried to do this. I even went on a Sfe course where the leader had had a go. Another set of posters can be found on the MTRS (go to Teaching Resources and scroll down or click here for a PDF file UK National Curriculum level notices).
Why, I ask myself, have many music teachers had to go to the trouble of translating "English" back into English? It would have been easier to have written the Attainment Targets in clear English to begin with. Now, "Come on!" you say, "that would be too obvious".
Download my Level descriptors HERE as a zip file of 169KB (they unzip as Word files). I am grateful to Chris Jeffs of Ise Community College for inspiring me to have a go at this onerous task. I fear I have not got it quite right yet; but it is a start.
E-mail me with comments is you wish.
