Making the Garden - 1985/1990 |
|
Between 1985 and 1990 we continued to plant and change the south-east garden to adapt to the exposed site and to reduce maintenance by reducing the number of borders and beds and replacing them with trees and shrubs in grassed areas. On the west side of the stone barn, adjacent to the drive, we planted beds of shrub and climbing roses, underplanted with spring bulbs. We also started to form the garden on the north side of the house by planting some trees and shrubs including silver birches, larches, cotoneastors, lilacs, viburnums, amelanciers and shrub roses. In 1990 we planted more native trees and shrubs on the north side of the drive and underplanted with daffodils for spring colour. In 1994 this planting Scheme was extended along the west field boundary to the sheep meadow gate. |
