Drive and Spring Garden

The Gateway has roses, honeysuckle, clematis, berberi and cotoneastors on either side. This includes a  large Canary Bird rose which flowers in May and a Hunters Red which is a superb  rugosa rose flowering throughout the summer to the late autumn.

The area to the north of the drive has been planted with native Alders, Silver Birch, Poplars, Field Maple and Rowans in beds surrounded by mown paths .  The trees are underplanted and interspersed  with shrubs including azaleas, camellias, rhododendrons , and roses and Daffodils. Specimen trees including blue and golden cedars and flowering cherries are displayed in mown grass areas either side of the drive and complete the spring colour at the end of May.  Junipers  placed at the end of the drive anchor the house and buildings to the garden.
