Hands Across Your Face

Hands across your face was The Ramones reply to "We are the world" and all the backslapping tribute songs that followed

Heres a bit about the single packaging - Crummy Stuff

The music video was actually for something to believe in, but at this point in time they werent releasing singles in the U$A and this probably their best

It was directed by "Fisher and Preachman" and heres a few stolen clips from it to illustrate this tale

Scott saw my website and wrote to me - "Walking past the New York Public Library way back, when?, in or about 1986, I was asked to participate in the taping of the Hands Across Your Face video. I remember being at the urinal inside the library, holding hands with some guys, bouncing to some music, maybe another shot or two as well.

You know, I've never actually seen it and I'm wondering how I might be able to. Any ideas?"

"Wont you please lend a hand ?"

Well, its available on the "Lifestyles of the Ramones" but its currently out of print - you can get the DVD version from Brazil though

I asked him what the shoot was like and he said

"Not much to share about the video shoot - I was walking home from a job that I had at the time a couple of blocks north of the 42nd st. library, and there was a guy outside of the library with a clipboard. I think back and I do think I remember seeing one or two of the Ramones standing around, which was a tip-off to some of what was going on.

After either being approached, or asking what was going on, I signed a release form and pretty immediately was taken into the library to participate in what I think were two shoots. One was the bathroom scene - standing in front of these very large urinals, with a 4-6 other guys, backs to the camera, all holding hands and being instructed to sway to some piped in music.

To be honest, I don't remember the second shoot. I just remember all of us being taken into another room at the library, possibly a reading room. Maybe something else made it to the video where I'd be able to recognize myself.

And that was that. A handshake and a thanks and I was off.

MTV was pretty big at the time. I remember hearing a couple of people mentioning that they had seen it airing, but after a while, I forgot about the whole thing. And then - the web and the internet! What can't you find if you look hard enough? I'm looking forward to seeing the clip."
