Scout News

The Scout Troop holds its meetings on Friday evenings 7.15pm - 9.15pm and is run by Sarah with assistance from Colin (GSL) and Roger (RAMA). At the moment the Troop consists of 15 Scouts but we welcome fresh faces (Bring your friend along). We have recently invested 2 new Scouts, Robbie on Friday 11th April and Robert on Friday 18th.

BOURTON COOMBE

So far this year, Scouts have participated in several activities. The first of which was a Night Hike to Bourton Coombe on Friday 7th March. Arranged by myself it was designed to teach the Scouts night navigation and although the hike involved a climb of approximately 80 metres the total distance was no longer than 2km. Groups of Scouts were provided with Map, Compass and Route Card and led various stages to the summit where a camp fire was lit and all indulged in a hot snack and drinks, before heading back down and home.

-Lewis made the following comments:
"I Went to Bourton Coombe and it was fun Me and Steve did ALL the cooking, we then toasted bread and had to live up to the name of 'Toasted Breadcrumbs' we then walked back down with Sarah and talked about Horror Stories which set just the right atmosphere (being in the dark an' all) for Rich to pounce out from behind a tree and scare the pants off us"

-Another comment was from James
"Bourton Coombe was a Joyful, Jolly night out (kind off). First we walked the piddly distance to the summit, when we got to the top we lit a fire and munched food. Roger got something in his eye, meanwhile...... Rich got friendly with the woman from the Lockleaze Scouts. We started off again and cut through the woods to get to a path which led to an old Quarry and then back to the Bus."

It has been noted that James obviously likes walking and the next hike will be twice the distance just for him.

Alton Towers

On Sunday 6th April, We had a day out at Alton Towers. It was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Everybody agreed that the rides were fantastic. This was what Christopher thought of the day out.
"I woke up at 6.30 in the morning, got ready and went out of the door by 7.00. We went in the minibus and drove there, which took about 3 hours. When we got there I felt rather sick! but I was more than ready to go on the rides there."
"First of all we went on this funny kind of train which took us to the rides. We went on many rides, some of us liked the rides more than others, but I really enjoyed it and when I went home I was more than ready to go to bed."

We are not sure what Matthew enjoyed most. Was it the rides? or was it the hot dogs with the crispy onion on top?
All the scouts have stories to tell about their day out at Alton Towers, far too many to mention here, so talk to them, ask them questions at the A.G.M. maybe.
