General Definition of Breed
Classes for Championship and Open shows
as per The Irish Kennel Club -
2001.
(Any inaccuracies are my own)
Shetland Sheepdogs come under the
Pastoral Breeds
Minor Puppy - For dogs over
the age of six months and under nine months of age on the day of the Show, computed from
and inclusive of the date of its birth.
Puppy - Confined to dogs
over six and under twelve calendar months of age on the day of the Show, computed from and
inclusive of the date of its birth.
Junior - For dogs over the
age of six and under eighteen calendar months of age on the day of the Show, computed from
and inclusive of the date of its birth.
Yearling - For dogs over
twelve and under twenty-four calendar months of age on the day of the show, computed from
and inclusive of the date of its birth.
Maiden - For dogs that have
never won a prize in any class at any show (Limited shows excepted) under the rules of any
governing body recognised by the IKC.
Novice - For dogs which have
not been awarded:
(a) A Green Star or Challenge Certificate
(b) Two first prizes - In any class other than Puppy, Junior,
Beginners or Maiden
At a Members or Limited show under the rules of any
governing body recognised by the IKC.
Graduate - For dogs which
have not won total of 5 first prizes in any one or combination of the following classes,
viz: Open, Limit, or Gradute classes for the breed at a show or shows where a Green Star
of CC was awarded for the breed or sex, as the case may be, or has won 23 or more points
in Green Star competition or a CC.
Limit - For dogs which have
not won total of 8 first prizes in any one or combination of the following classes, viz:
Open or Limit Classes for the breed at a show or shows where a Green Star of CC was
awarded for the breed or sex, as the case may be, or has won 38 or more points in Green
Star competition or a CC.
Open - For all dogs eligible
for entry at the show.
Veteran - For dogs of not
less than seven years of age on the first day of the show.
Brace - For two exhibits
(either sex or mixed) belonging to the same exhibitor, each exhibit having been entered in
some class other than Brace.
