dreamcatchers

Invocation

Dream catcher
Tell us a tale of what you've caught
Of fisherfolk turned healers
And persecutors turned believers
Of people in a new belonging
That cracks the darkness
Dream catcher
Spin us a dream
In brightest colours
And translucent shades
Of hope
Dreams that are twist and shout
With life and love and laughter
Dream catcher
Pour out a living wealth of visions
Of icons of that new world
That dream world
Made reality
In our souls
Hearts
And lives
Dream Catcher
Catch a dream for the world.

Meditative sequence

Two people, one at either end of the room/aisle. There is a lit candle in the middle of the worship area. As each speaks they move forward one pace ending up face to face with the candle between them. One will blow it out. The other light it again.

It is not true that the world and its people are doomed to die and be lost... (Step forward)

This is true: For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him, shall not perish, but have everlasting life... (Step forward)

It is not true that we must accept inhumanity and discrimination, hunger and poverty, death and destruction... (Step forward)

This is true: I have come that they may have life, and that abundantly... (Step forward)

It is not true that violence and hatred should have the last word, and that war and destruction have come to stay forever... (Step forward)

This is true: for unto us a child is born, and unto us a son is given, and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called wonderful counsellor, mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace... (Step forward)

It is not true that we are simply victims of the powers of evil who seek to rule the world... (Step forward)

This is true: To me is given all authority in heaven and on earth. And lo, I am with you, even unto the end of the world... (Step forward)

It is not true that we have to wait for those who are specially gifted, who are the prophets of the church, before we can do anything... (Step forward)

This is true: I will pour out my spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall have dreams... (Step forward)

It is not true that our dreams for liberation for humankind, of justice, of human dignity, of peace are not meant for this earth and for this history...(Step forward and blow out candle)

This is true: The hour comes, and it is now, that the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth... (Step forward and light candle again)

New song

The prophets told of future times
In visions and in dreams
Of new worlds based on promises
Where love shall be the theme:
The poor share in the world's wealth
All folk are free, all life has worth.
Dream now your dream, live out your hope,
Envision God's new earth.

The Holy Spirit will pour out
On every person here!
Our sons and daughters prophecy
'The time is very near
When wonders in the clouds above
And on the earth, below the skies,
Point out the people and the place
Where God's new earth arrives'.

Catch hold the kingdom dream of hope
When justice shall reign strong;
When war and hurt and bondage break
And freedom be our song;
When love, in sacrifice and death,
Labours in pain and then gives birth
To all our visions, hopes and dreams,
Remaking God's new earth.

Tune: Une Jeune Pucelle

Dream-takers

Our God has big desires. It's not about sweet dreams and gentle cottonwool filled imaginings. This is a total revamp of the world and it is only tempered by our lack of vision: not seeing the big picture that leaps and dances and cavorts out from the pages of our bible. Catch that dream. Rromp with the vision. Frolic with the promise.

There is a big dream out there. We can't hold it all but we can catch our part of it and live it and make it real. On the floor is a big picture, may of the images from God's dream that God want us to be part of. We heard about it throughout the evening. Ours is now to jump into that dream-time grasping our bit. Choose a piece of the picture, take it away with you and live it, make it real somehow, in your own way. It could be a picture or a word. It is your part of the Big Dream. Go catch hold of the dream and dream it into reality.

During the next few moments, during some up-beat music, everyone is invited to pick up a piece of a collage made up of magazine pictures and words. Each represents a dream, a hope, an image of God's Kingdom and people can choose one as their piece of the dream to take away and work on in effect dedicating themselves to the Kingdom dream.
