An Example of a Typical Day
Morning sessions
| 9:15 |
Registration - Children find their name badge and name card and hand it to the register taker. |
| 9:30 |
Free choice activities - Children are given the freedom to choose what they want to do from a number of activities available. These may include gluing, painting, sand tray, play dough and role play. There is always a craftwork activity available which all children are encouraged to do and we learn a different letter sound each week. |
| 10:50 |
Tidy up time - Children help tidy up the toys. |
| 11:00 |
Drinks time - Children wash their hands and sit down at tables for a drink and a biscuit. We discuss the weather and activities undertaken so far in the day. We also encourage simple counting eg. counting the biscuits being handed out. |
| 11:15 |
Story time - The children share a story in a group (or divide into two groups). There is plenty of child participation, including acting out the story and following actions. |
| 11:30 |
Group time - Children divide into small groups for structured activities on various themes, such as counting, physical activity (eg. hopping, trampolining, skipping) and music |
| 11:45 |
Singing, music and group activity - Children join a circle for singing, music and group games, such as The Farmer's in his Den, skittles and lotto. |
Afternoon sessions
Activities are similar to those for morning sessions, but adapted for younger children and a shorter session. For example, the register is taken with the group sitting down together to encourage communication.
