Adult Resources

Staff to child ratio

We are very proud of the high ratio of adults to children in our group.

Legal requirements demand one adult for every six children and there are plans to change this to one adult for every eight children. We operate on a ratio of at least one staff member for every five children in our afternoon sessions (for the younger children). Morning sessions (for the older children) operate on a ratio of one member of staff for every six children and we will not alter this even when changes in the law allow us to.Internal Shot

Furthermore, subject to parental help through the parents' rota, the ratio of adults to children is often even better, enabling us to give more individual attention to the needs and development of each child.

Staff

The regular staff in our group are:

  • Supervisors: Judy Bright and Gill Witts (mornings); Sally Mariner (afternoons)
  • Deputy Supervisors: Sheila Kelland; Bridget Thacker; Sharon Prince
  • Paid Helpers: Linda Piper; Frances Price; Andrea Langston
At least one supervisor and one deputy supervisor are present at all sessions.

Training

All supervisors and deputy supervisors have formal early education and childcare qualifications and the pre-school is committed to the ongoing training of all members of staff as required.

In addition, our membership of the Pre-school Learning Alliance ensures that we are constantly in touch with new thinking in the field of child education and care. We receive a monthly magazine offering practical advice and up-to-date information, and have access to a range of professionally produced publications.
