Great
success! If you weren't there, you actually missed a humdinger of a dance.
It went better than we could possibly have hoped.
Neil
Pointon was an absolute star. He made a good speech when accepting Steve
Fulton's Player of the Season award, later did a stint at karaoke, stayed
with Steve Frail to to keep things moving with a swing, and led a few
choruses of numerous Hearts songs on the microphone before leaving
slightly ahead of the rest of us at approximately 2am!
The well
known Hearts star of the sixties, Arthur Mann, who had very kindly agreed
to come along, also had a very good night. At one point in the evening,
our Secretary, John McBurnie, grabbed the microphone, related to everybody
the fact that Arthur had told him on the phone that he wished he'd never
left Hearts and announced that we would like to take him back to
Tynecastle on our coach next season, as he has never been back since his
move to Manchester City. He was so moved that he got up and gave a
ten-minute speech on his fond memories of days at Hearts.
His wife
approached John later to thank us for what we had done and said that
Arthur had been extremely emotional about the whole evening.
The crowd
from Edinburgh enjoyed themselves so much that we have been told in no
uncertain terms that, if we don't hold another dance next year, we will be
drummed out of the Federation!
