Motor Reversing Circuit (for a Twin Propeller Vessel)

This circuit enables two motors to be controlled by using micro switches worked by the steering servo arm, to stop and reverse one of the motors.
When motor on the inside of the turn is stopped the boat will have a tighter turn  ( when turning to PORT the port side motor stops) and then if it is switched to run backwards (astern) the turn becomes a spin.

If the rudder is activated to full swing BEFORE any power is fed to the motors the boat will virtually spin without any foreword movement, the switching works regardless of motors going ahead or astern before being switched, but the actual direction of turn is reversed.

With practice the boat can perform a range of maneuvers with only basic two channel radio control.

By arranging the servo arm to first activate switch 'A' (with partial turning of the rudder) the motor stops, then when switch 'B' is activated (on full rudder) the motor circuit is reversed and so runs in the opposite direction.

As the rudder is brought back to its center position the switches revert to their normal positions and both motors are then turning as normal.

THE TWO SWITCH CIRCUIT SHOWN BELOW IS FOR ONE MOTOR ONLY, NORMALLY THE MICROSWITCH'S CAN BE MOUNTED ONE ABOVE THE OTHER.

NC = Normally Closed when switch is NOT Activated
NO = Normally Open when switch is NOT Activated
(These reverse when switch IS Activated)
COMMON = ALWAYS CONNECTED (to one or other of above)

Speed Controller (between power supply and switch's) omitted for clarity

By using a pair of cams I have better two stage action.
First cam stops motor, second cam reverses motor when
rudder is at full swing, the cams give a wider gap between stop and reverse, so with rudder a partial swing the inner motor has stopped
giving a more gentle turn than with one motor in reverse,
then on full swing with motor reversing, boat spins.
