Sarah Lucas, Colin Lowe and Roddy Thompson

at Milton Keynes Gallery 14th March 2003

A collaboration exhibition of new works examining pub culture, cigarettes and alcohol, death and self-destruction, through a series of scultures and wall works

Sarah Lucas enjoying mingling with the crowds. I never caught Colin or Roddy but they were the models for this piece of theirs "Two faced lying little fucker". They cast their own heads to make the exhibit.

The full piece is below, chain mail in 1 and 2 pence pieces, jointed armour from beer mats, fuelled with alcohol, the figures will battle the 10 foot dragon on the left of them.

this 10 foot dragon was fashioned completely in cigarettes
It was a great evening of participation, audience and gallery alike. Here's Stephen Snoddy, the Curator, serving drinks to the punters. The bar was "the Yard Ape", a collaboration by all three artists. the bar had a ladies loo, below, and a urinal (after Duchamp)

The bar was further extended by the back wall of the front gallery "She cried a lonly night too often", a whole wall of full gin bottles on optics, the viewers were encouraged to have a shot or three (hic)

"What fresh hell is this" is the stuffed crows on a black cross, referenced to a painting by Gericault, 1918. Another view below.

Some nice chalk drawings by Colin and Roddy
"Christ you know it ain't easy" "Thank you and goodnight"

A great exhibition ! One I can relate to being a drinker and a smoker.

The biggest crowd I have ever seen at MKG.........all in good humour. I wonder if the gin had anything to do with it ? Seriously, art does not have to be that serious, this was everything, with a deeper, gloomy side if you were searching for it. Good luck to MKG with this one, I think they have a winner.

My mates from Nothampton Uni, Herts Uni and BarnfieldCollege below don't look gloomy, some are half pissed !!!!
