Tate Modern - 9th/10th May 2003

A great 2 day Symposium. A whole list of speakers is here.

It was particularly interesting for me to meet Lev Manovich and Joshua Davis and hear what they had to say. I am writing my dissertation about interactive net.art and the whole two days are going to contibute in many way for me, lots to digest and study.

To the right is one of Lev's screens showing his early painting art work in Russia.

I snicked a couple of Joshua's statement from his screen, above and below. Not bad for a hand held camera with no flash !!!! And I had to distort these back from the angle I was filming.

Josh explaining how he worked with his wife's and her friend's image and progammed an amalgamation of the two images. Josh again on right with other imaging made by programming.

I must get my head round actionscripting this summer.

We had some glamour on the first day.

George Dodd and Jenny Tillotson were focusing on smell and the impact it has our health and well-being.

The model was wired to emit aromas. She looked sweet enough without this !!!

Masaki Fujihati gave a very humourous and lively talk on his work

He is a professor at Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music and is renowned for his pioneering work in the field of Interactive Art

He showed us how he made work from travels and GPS navigation systems plotting combined with real photos of his travels.

The delightful Anna Hill gestures as she delivers her talk mainly about her wonderful time spent recently in Norway studying, filming and recording the Northen Lights phenomenon.
Natalie Bookchin Jaqueline Stephens Nat Muller Peter Higgins
Tricia Austin

I hope I have all the correct names to the faces.

But it was a truly remarkable memorable conference.

A veritable bevy of over 20 international speakers.

I met some nice interesting people.

A sell-out !...and the organisers are to be congratulated and commended.
