Martin and Andrew have been busy sorting out all of the recorded files so far. We will be at the Dorset Music Service music day at Lighthouse Poole on Friday 14th March where you will be able to hear some of the work done so far.

Last time at Turlin Moor Middle School. This week we created a new piece using various instruments including: keyboards, guitars, a drum machine, a flute and an off-stage bugle. Have a look at our coming soon page if you would like to come to more music workshops. Take a look at Dorset Music Service if you would like to learn how to play an instrument or join a band.

The final workshop at Hamworthy First School. Following on from the work done last week we recorded new sections to add to the Singing Rhythm Dancing sample. The piece is now a sensible length and has a simple A - B - A structure. We hope you've enjoyed taking part in Hamworthy Radio as much as we've enjoyed it. The final radio production will not be available until after the Easter Holidays, but keep checking back here to see how we're doing in the other Hamworthy schools.

This week we added further tracks of words and a section of music with a nautical feel to the music from the last two weeks. The piece is now finished.
Hamworthy First School Thursday 13th February
We took a short piece of recording from last week, looped it (playing over and over again), and created some more music to be layered on top of it. This processes is called multi-tracking. To record music in layers like this requires lots of concentration. Well done everyone that took part today. *****

Today the children helped to write a riff for Martin to play on the bass guitar. We then formed a rock band with keyboards, guitars, horn section and percussion to make a new piece of music using the riff on the bass. They also made up a rap about sports to turn into a sampled piece using a percussion track recorded last week. If you're not sure what some of these terms mean try looking them up on Wikipedia.
Hamworthy First School Thursday 6th February
We examined how rhythm, pulse and pitch are used in music. The children recoded some chants which will be used next week with tuned instruments.
Turlin Moor Middle School Friday 31st January
The musical adverts from last week were extended today. The music created today is the start of a metamorphosis from advert to full-length musical work. If you would like to hear some contemporary music on the radio try this link. You will need Real Player to listen to the BBC.
Hamworthy First School Thursday 30th January
One of the adverts from last week didn't record very well, so this week everyone joined in to make a better recording of the advert. We thought about ways that the advert could be made to sound even better and looked at layering samples (small pieces of sound recording). Find out more about orchestral instruments here.
Turlin Moor Middle School Friday 24th January
Todays workshop concentrated on making musical adverts for fake products. Some of the products included: an ever-lasting lolipop made from rock, tomato tea, chocolate jelly and a paper vase. With all of these jingles and adverts it is starting to sound like a real radio station (2CR FM).
Hamworthy First School Thursday 23rd January
We spent the time making signature jingles for some of the shows: morning, afternoon and night. We listened to some of the jingles made last week by Turlin Moor Middle school and composed a short new percussion piece. If you are interested in hearing some other internet radio stations you could try Shoutcast.com.
Turlin Moor Middle School Friday 17th January
First Session, yippee! We had some fun knocking together a few quick jingles with the children at Turlin Moor Middle School.
Some examples Wednesday 8th January
|
Martin and Andrew have made a signature jingle and an advertisement to start the project off. What would your radio jingle sound like? |
