CV: Andy Corsham
Who am I, and what am I all about?
Where am I now
I'm a 35 year old former IT professional, who has taken time out of the job market to do a degree and explore the possibility of an academic career, a prospect which seemed appealing since I loved studying and - equally importantly - I was good at it. However, a flirtation with post-graduate life at Oxford has convinced me that my future lies in other areas; areas less specialised and less narrow in focus, less concerned with jumping through hoops, and more focussed on creativity and pragmatism. Oh, and areas that are more rewarding financially while still being 'socially useful'.
What are my skills? (Prospective employers please note...)
I have a broad-based IT background encompassing mainframes, PCs, databases, technical support, training and consultancy. This has given me an adaptable approach to IT, and some technical expertise, but, more importantly, this background has helped me to develop a set of 'enabling skills' which are portable across a range of jobs: specifically, my communication and interpersonal skills; a 'client-centered' approach; experience of projects from inception to implementation; experience of dealing with staff at all levels; and a facility with conceptual and analytical thinking. These skills, combined with the systematic and disciplined approach to work that I developed during my degree course, have made me a more mature worker and one who is flexible and productive. As a team member, I am confident, personable, funny, and good at getting the best out of people.
