The Three Jewels - symbolising the realities that are the basis of the transcendental unity of all Buddhists

     Ashvajit

 Welcome to my Web Site

Hello and welcome. My name is Ashvajit. I was given this name, which means 'The Horse Tamer', or 'Conqueror of Distractedness', or 'The Horse that bears the Three Jewels' by my Buddhist Preceptor, Sangharakshita, in August 1972. I thus became a member of the Western Buddhist Order, which then consisted of six or seven active members. The Movement (known as Trailokya Bauddha Mahasangha in India) was founded by Sangharakshita in 1968.

You will find on this Site pages about Buddhism, about the Buddhist Order to which I belong and the Buddhist Movement that has grown up around it; about my Buddhist Teacher, Sangharakshita; about my friends in the Order and the Movement; about my current ideas and activities; about some of the work that I have done and that I intend yet to do. I hope that what you see here will be inspiring. Maybe it will even awaken in you some hankering for the spiritual life and an aspiration to engage in compassionate activity. The world is a big place, with many things going on it that cause a lot of suffering. It needs many people with wisdom and compassion working in it. Are you one of those people who knows how to work in this way?
