In 1969 ten QA class wagons had their bolster removed and were fitted to carry four nickel ore containers each. The wagons involved were 9354, 9365, 9398, 9406, 9424/6/7, 9435 9446/8.

Seven of them (9354, 9365, 9398, 9406, 9427, 9435, 9446) were written off in 1977 and the final three 9424/6 and 9448 were written off in 1979.
