Allegro Literature
Having spent some time collecting Allegro memorabelia (on a relatively small scale) I thought it would be useful to document some of the things I have found out about. I have divided it into a number of sections covering the main types of material available.
There is a steady supply of such material being
sold on eBay and it is always worth searching for
such material, just go to ebay and search for
"Austin Allegro".
Books
Books about the Allegro seem almost non-existant, hopefully a definitive history will be published but until then we have to put up with snippets in other books.
The main book I have found that gives a mention of Allegros is the Complete Catalogue of Austin Cars from 1945 by Anders Ditlev Clausager. This is available at the Amazon web site
The recent publication "Worst Cars in Britain" has two pages covering the Allegro. Available from the Amazon web site
Manuals
Workshop Manuals
The definitive manuals are the BL Workshop manuals. Originally these were of loose leaf format in a green plastic binder. Regular updates were produced as new models were introduced or changes made.
Later editions were issued as a thick bound book. The manual had part number AKD8342
Haynes
The Haynes manuals are probably the best known and one has just been re-printed by Haynes as part of a series for enthusiasts. Produced over a number of years there were different editions adding more Allegro varients. The cover indicates the date range and models covered.

Autobook

There appears to be a number of separate manuals by Autobooks, published by Autopress Ltd. The main varients that seem to exist cover all models; the OHV engine (1098cc and 1275cc); the OHC engine (1500cc and 1750cc) and an Owner's Maintenance and Repair Guide.

Brochures
There are many different brochures produced for all the different models and markets. The initial UK launch on 13th May 1973 was accompanied by this blue folder.

Articles
There are many car magazines so throughout the life of the Allegro there were many articles written. Here is an attempt to identify some that may be of interest.
One company has created compilations of articles
and two volumes are now available covering the
Allegro.
Transport
Source Books have two volumes covering the
Austin Allego. "Our road test book series consist
of quality reprints from the archives of Autocar,
Motor, Autocar & Motor, What Car?, Autosport, Your
Classics, Motoring News and others. They are
normally round about 84-104 pages and are
softbound."

Oddments
There are somethings that can only just be counted as Allegro publications and these are covered here.
Possibly the most unusual thing seen on eBay
recently was a set of beer mats, including one of
the Allegro - produced by Whitbread. (The others
were a mini and an 18/22 Princess)
Another odd item is a set of Belgian Allegro playing cards recently sold on eBay
