Welcome to the Aysgarth Bed and Breakfast Website.

'Aysgarth' is a chalet-style bungalow, overlooking farmland to the south, in the village of East Stour, part of the Blackmore Vale.  East Stour is in the northern tip of North Dorset and very close to the borders of Somerset and Wiltshire.

All rooms are equipped with digital colour television, DVD and tea/coffee making facilities.  The Guests' Breakfast Room/Lounge is available at all reasonable times.  Parking is off-road.

East Stour is situated on the A30, five miles west of Shaftesbury (Yeovil direction).  'Aysgarth' is on the B3092 apporximately half-mile north of the A30 (Gillingham direction).

Access Statement For Aysgarth


Our aim is to cater for the needs of visitors in our home based, 3 bedroom bed and breakfast.The following statement is a summary of our provision.If you have any questions, please fee free to contact us and we will do our utmost to help.


       There is a bus stop 50 metres from the entrance along level paths, BUT the bus service is very limited.

       The main train station is 10 minutes away by car at Gillingham (Dorset).London Waterloo is approx. 2 hours from Gillingham.

       Taxis are at the station to meet most trains.

       We have a website with photographs of each guest room, two on the Ground Floor and one on the First floor.

Arrival & Car Parking Facilities

       The entrance is a moderate uphill gradient but cars can drive right in.

       No marked parking bays but room for 3 cars.

       Tarmac Drive and parking area, adjacent to the house.

       There are 2 entrances to the property, each with two steps (maximum step height 17 cms).

       Temporary ramp available for one entrance, when required.

       Outside lighting.

       Assistance with luggage is always offered to guests.

Main Entrance & Reception

Side hung door.

The Carpeted Entrance Hall has a 3cm step to the inner hallway.

Carpeted Staircase to First Floor Bedroom - 5 stairs (each 20cm high) to half-landing and then 7 further stairs to Landing.

Adequate lighting.

Guests escorted to rooms and facilities explained.

Public Areas - General (Internal)

       Lounge/Dining room and Ground Floor Bedrooms accessed from inner hallway,

       all on the same level,i.e no steps.

       Inner hallway, minimum width 76 cms. Floor carpeted.

Public Areas WC

       Guest bedrooms are ALL en suite or with private bathroom.

Dining Room, Lounge

       Breakfast served in Lounge/Dining room.

       There are no steps.

       Fitted Carpet throughout.

       Furniture is flexible and can be moved on request.

       Refectory style dining table has underspace of 74cm high.


       We can offer drying facilities, when required.


       Farm Shop in village (half-mile), with wide range of mainly local products, including fresh bread, milk, deli counter.

       Spar shop at filling station (one mile), sells newspapers, snack foods etc.

       Bedroom 3 - First Floor. Door width 71cms.(Private Bathroom details below)

o      Standard Double bed, accessible from both sides.

o      Single bed available, if required, but with restricted head room (sloping ceiling).

o      1 armchair, 1 other chair.

o      This room has an additional seating area on the spacious landing with 2 armchairs.

       All bedrooms have TV with remote control

       Bell provided in inner hallway for call for assistance.

Bathroom, Shower-room & WC (En suite)

       Bathroom with Bedroom 1 on Ground Floor.

o      Door width 64cms, 3cm step.

o      Power shower OVER bath.

o      Bath edge - 55cm high.

Grounds and Gardens

       Garden mainly lawned, overlooking field at rear.

       Shrubbed borders.

       Abundant bird feeders to accommodate the large number of garden birds!

Additional Information

       Both proprietors have attended a Welcome Host course.

       Property is centrally heated throughout

       Each bedroom has an additional convector heater for guests' comfort.

       No smoking policy, throughout the property.

       Medication etc. can be stored in owners fridge.
