This part of North Dorset is a very good touring base.  Shaftesbury, Bath, Salisbury, Stonehenge, the Dorset Coast and many National Trust properties - Stourhead, Kingston Lacy, Montacute, Barrington Court - are all within, approximately, an hour's drive.
