Welcome.

From May to September in Malta is "Festa" time. Each week throughout the summer months you will find at least one festa being celebrated somewhere either in Malta itself or on its sister island of Gozo, or both. Every town or village has its own patron saint and annually the local folk celebrate their patron saint in style in a week long festivities, known locally as the "Festa".

As the reason for the Festa is a spiritual one, the local church is the hub of the activities. The town or village is decked with street decorations and festooned with multi coloured lighting. Philharmonic bands march and play brass band music in the streets and  of course, the festa would not be a festa without the obligatory Maltese fireworks displays which go on throughout the day or night until 23.00.

These pages are intended to give a brief insight into what is arguably one of the best celebrated and most heavily attended festas on the islands. They provide a pictorial tour of ZABBAR church together with some of the town's historical landmarks. They also include a short history of St Michael Band Club, one of the two local philharmonic band clubs who partake with great enthusiasm to make ZABBAR town's Festa an  unequalled success.
