I have been researching my family history for some time now and on my paternal side I am a direct
descendant of John Frankland of Helperby and Brafferton in the North Riding of Yorkshire. Until early in 2002 there have been Franklands living in the village since about 1796 when John, who was born in Huby, married
Jane Robinson of Helperby. John was a wheelwright, and many of his descendants carried on the family trade as carpenters and joiners. The names of those for whom I have provided details include FRANKLAND, ROBINSON,
JACKSON, KIRK, PREST, REX, WHITEHEAD and GALLIFORD. For further information please refer to the
YORKSHIRE
page.On my maternal side my ancestors most recently came from Birkenhead, Bebington, Tranmere and Port Sunlight as well as Wrexham and
Ireland. Their names include DOYLE, SHAW, CARTER, NORMAN, BARCLAY, RILEY {REILLY], COLLINS and ASHLEY. Please refer to the BIRKENHEADpages. My husband's family were all from in and around Macclesfield
were they were butchers or worked in the silk industry and among the names appearing are EVANS, BRADLEY, TRAFFORD, BLADIN, HALLOWELL, BOLLINGTON, BRUNT, BROCKLEHURST and PERCIVAL.Please refer to the
MACCLESFIELD page.
