A FORUM OF THE ROYAL SOCIETY OF MEDICINE

A forum for the presentation and discussion of issues at the cutting edge of pregnancy, birth, and care of the newborn.

Meetings five times in an annual session, usually starting at 6.00 p.m. weekdays, and including a whole-day meeting annually. Open to members without charge and to paying guests. A high priority is given to discussion - one hour of the total two and a half hours.

Meetings are followed at 8.30 p.m. by an optional buffet.

Members and guests typically include midwives, GPs, obstetricians, physiotherapists, psychologists, psychoanalysts, health visitors, paediatricians, neonatal nurses, members of organisations such as the NCT and AIMS, and lay people - and others.

MIDIRS The central source of information on maternity care and childbirth for midwives and others.

AIMS Offers information, support and advice about all aspects of maternity care, including parents rights, choices, etc.. Plus information leaflets and a quarterly Journal.

The Independent Midwives Association Independent Midwives are fully qualified midwives who, in order to practise the midwife's role to its fullest extent, have chosen to work outside the NHS, although supporting its aims and ideals.

The Community Practitioners’ and Health Visitors’ Association This is the UK professional body that represents registered nurses and health visitors who work in a primary or community health setting.

BirthChoiceUK This non-commercial website is aimed at pregnant women in the UK, helping them choose their maternity care.
