Comments from Cllr Shaun McGall (Liberal Democrats, Oldfield)

For some of these questions I wanted to respond with more that only one of the options offered. E.g. Question 1 - Our manifesto includes a carbon neutral goal for the Council. Question 3 - I would have picked b, c and d together. Question 4 - What we really need are 'Safe routes to Schools' implemented across the authority including cycle routes, 24/7 20 mph zones around all schools and 'walking buses'. Question 5 - I did not answer any of the options you gave, as this is my prefered option: Expansion should not be countenanced without better public transport links, measures to reduce greenhouse gasses, no rise in the overal levels of current pollution and strict adherence to the 'polluter pays' principle. We also need to protect our current green spaces within the city such as to the rear of 89-123 Englishcombe Lane, Sandpits Play area and Hillcrest Open Space from development. We need more allotments to be provided across the city. The Council needs to develop a more carbon neutral transport fleet. We need to change the current litter bins on our streets to allow for the separate collection of plastic drink bottles and cans, and paper. Councillors should have to pay for their parking permits to encourage car sharing and less overall reliance on cars.
