To make a bottle for your miniature you must first find an old aircraft model. Take the clear canopy out and cut a section of the sprue (the frame that holds it all together). SAVE the rest as you will need it all, it will take several tries to get the desired effect. Now the hard part, get a candle from your wife, be careful they bite( the wife not the candle)! Light said candle, now grasp the piece of sprue. An end in each hand. Hold over the flame at a height that the heat is not felt. While rolling the sprue,( so that it will evenly be heated) lower towards the flame, till it starts to soften. When this happens remove from heat while gently stretching the plastic to the desired shape. Then cut to the length you need. If you want to make a rim for the bottle, heat a hobby knife blade over the flame (not to hot!) and touch the end of the bottle. This will form a small lip. To make the "bottle" appear to have liquid in it you must drill out the bottom of the bottle when this is done you can paint the inside with the proper colored ink. The ink is better than paint as ink is translucent while paint is not. On the other hand, I fill my "bottles" with orthodontic acrylic and cure to 3 atmospheres. Then I polish the "bottle" on a rag wheel. A mug or glass is done the same way only upside down. I know this all sounds easy but it will take several tries. patience and practice will win you through. |
