Siege at Dehli by Ian Hall

They were taken at the WMMMS at Alumwell in 1997. the terrain boards are the generic colonial ones we [ the VMS Wargames study group ] use for anything from Egypt to Mexico via the NW Frontier. They were later supplanted by specific "Delhi" boards. All fortifications & "red" buildings made by Mr John French , as were the boards. Figures mainly WF from the collections of John F & Clive Hartland. Clive now owns the terrain & buildings. The white buildings are generic resin "hot-climate" types [ again used in as many scenarios as we can get away with!].Units represented are unfortunately not completely accurate for the siege, but the organisations were done as closely as poss. to the real thing. Rules used ;" Principles of War".

The british attacking the Kashmir gate (note "deliberate" mistake - one of the gates should be bricked up. Later rectified after a few red faces!). The breech has been made 7 the Highlanders storm in.

The Highlanders' assault as seen from the mutineers' side. Note mad officer's wife joining in! too much whiskey on a hot day will do that ;-).

The Highlanders gain the breech & O'neill's Bluecaps, along with the 61st foot, have taken the Kashmir gate. The end is nigh!

Here's the pics from the second game. The newer reddish Delhi boards are now in use, but the scenario's pretty much the same, with different players involved. Taken at the VMS Fair in 1997.

O'neill's Bluecaps , supported by the Baluchis & European Pickets storm the Kabul Gate.

The Kashmir Gate is forced, but at heavy cost with one battalion withdrawing in disorder.Ghazis try to stem the flow.In the background, the Highlanders have scaled the damaged portion of the wall.
