What have we did we do in 2006?

Gliding North Yorkshire Gliding Club

Gliding in September was a huge success with all the place taken. All had the chance to try controlling the glider at 2000ft under strict supervision of qualified pilots

Kayak Junior level 1 star, 18 June 2006Overspill 15.jpg (16538 bytes)

An action packed day was had by all, we went to Scout Dyke for a full day on the reservoiur. The scout had to learn to canoe in a straight line as well turn the Kayak on the spot. Capsizing was at the end of the session, well done all in passing your 1 star. 2 Star will be done over a weekend at Pugneys, in September/October again I'll be booking a private instructor.

RYA Junior Level 1 & 2 Sailing Lessons,  18th to 20th May 2006 Overspill 12.jpg (4462 bytes)

It was a brilliant success this year with all the Scouts passing their RYA Level 2. The went from very ittle wind to gail force. The course was run by an RYA (Royal Yachting Association) instructor and included all the water fees, and associated equipment. The had to able to swim. A few capsized at times but all was able to sail by the end of the course. WELL DOPNE ALL!

WW2 Demonstration 10 May 2006

Overspill 18.jpg (21250 bytes)An enjoyable and very informative evening was had by all as Chris W gave a wonderful insight into what life in the Army was like during the second world war. It was an obvious success when I had to blow my whistle to call time to the many questions.

This was only some of the equipment Chris had and mentioned other larger items such an WW2 truck he has. Hopefully I can persuade him to join us a local camp to show us a little more of his amazing collection

Thank you Chris.

JOTI-JOTA OCTOBER 2005

Joti 2005.gif (14676 bytes) As promised it was bigger and better at this annual event as 1PSC joined 500,000 other Scouts world wide in this annual event. Both Scouts and Thursday Cubs slept over making it a weekend to remember. The computers were on from 18:00 Friday night to 15:00 Sunday with scouts staying all night making new contacts and friends,. There are no no political boundaries for young people in the Scouts. We had contacts in Australia as well as China and Saudi Arabia. The JOTA had contacts with many local scout groups who where on the airwaves, we even made contacts in Russia. It was an amazing event, thank you to Pontefract Radio Club for the hard work they put in to make this a success, and to all the leaders who helped to keep the event up and running from this on the sleep over to those who made loads of home made cakes THANKYOU

Ackworth Parade 2005

Overspill 2.jpg (19788 bytes)

This was the first event for the Overspill (Yet to open in September). It was a good turn out, with the whole group attending both Beavers, Cubs & Scouts came to show their respect. The Remembrance March took place at Ackworth war memorial after a long March to the cenotaph. 1PS certainly made a big impression because we have been officially asked if a Scout would read out a Lesson in Church on the Remembrance Sunday parade in November at St Giles to 500+ people, what an honour. So if you're in the Overspill and fancy reading out a lesson in church, and represent 1PS the largest Scout Centre in the Yorkshire then have a chat with me (Ark)

I will be running a savings club for those that will find it easier to pay a little each week for all these exciting expeditions. Or you can pay monthly by direct debit to ensure your scout has a full scouting year that will remain in his/her memory for the rest of their lives, thanks to you. So let us work with you to develop your scouts memories.
