New to 1st Pontefract Scout Centre this July 2008, is "Vintage Scouts", a motor bike club. It is open to all parents, ex Scouters', leaders, & FHG members to 1PSC. You can have any type of bike from a high performance to the classic Harley's.

It's currently our intention to meet once a month at 1PSC for an evenings ride out during the summer months, plus the odd camping event thrown in, including a possible trip to the Isle of Man for the TT races in 2009.

To join the group just get in touch, there will also be the odd fund raising event to help keep 1PSC well equipped during the year. The Club is free to join.

Types of Bikes

I've no set rules, however I'll be using either a Harley Davidson 883 Sportster or a Honda Pan for the trips out. It's obvious that you must have a road worthy bike MOT where applicable and Motorbike Insurance. As you'd all appreciate, each rider will have different riding experience and be on different bikes then you'll be fine. There will be regular stops on the rides out, or you might just want to meet up at 1PSC for a cuppa before doing your own thing. Remember, just by buying a cuppa you'll be helping the Scout centre out. We always need equipment for kids at the centre. Non-members are welcome at the centre for a cuppa too.

WINTER/SPRING TESTER RIDES

(These rides are tester rides for me to plan what bike rides the new group will do from Summer. All are welcome, however please let me know if you intend to come on these rides , max 8 bikers)

Tester Bike Ride 1 = 29 February 2008 Sherburn in Elmet, short ride meet at 1PSC 16:00

Tester Bike 2 = 1 March 2008 Whitby, long ride, fish and chips meet at 1PSC 13:30

Tester Bike Ride 3 = 3 March 2008 York, short ride, meet at my home 16:00

Tester Ride 4 = April (TBA) Squirres at Sherburn

ADVICE

LEARNERS-New to biking: For those that don't have a motorbike license and are over 21 years of age with a full driving license you have a choice of various Training people in the area from Castleford to Wakefield, please get in touch and I'll give you the contact names and numbers. I took a Direct Access Course with our local motorbike training people FMT at Castleford. The course was over a full week, Monday to Friday, and cost around £600 in total that's if you pass everything.

  • Stage 1: Theory Test
  • Stage 2: CBT
  • Stage 3: Direct Access Course
  • Stage 4: Motorbike test at Wakefield
  • You will need nothing other than a full driving license. Training, motorbikes, insurance and equipment are provided by the training people, so what are you waiting for.
  • Start an Adventure yourself, you deserve it!.

Planning ahead: There's lots of water to flow under the bridge as they say, but I'm already looking to a 2009 France tour, 2010 Austria, 2011 Italy plus 2012 (My big 50) for a trip to Sturgis in the USA for one of the biggest motor bike events in the US with over 500,000 bikers attending this week long bikers rally. So you see, already, as you'd expect, "Vintage Scouts" are thinking big!

Merchandise: There will be polo shirts, base ball hats, t shirts, bandana's for sale soon. Again all profit goes to 1PSC.

You undertake joining this club at your own risk, 1PSC or any of it leaders will not accept responsibility for you or your property. You must have a full motorbike license, and insurance. You must be aware that there is a high element of risk when taking part in these activities.

VOLUTEER Needed!

We need a vounteer to make cups of tea and coffee at the centre the centre. Hopefully, some time down the line, you'll be serving hot food such as bacon or chip butties etc. Anyone can volunteer, you do not have to be part of 1PSC, CRB checks are needed as there'll be no young people at the centre. Remember all profit goes to our Scouts. Contact John (me) if you could help out.
