Carl Morris Fund Although Carl died in November 1993, he has bequeathed to us all a number of legacies. Those of us who knew him have memories of a vital, caring man, but even those members who never met him have been left some precious gifts. Firstly, there is the Bears' Club itself - a club which obviously meets the needs of many men judging by its rapid and sustained growth over the many years. I have no doubt that the Club will continue to grow and provide a way in which members can meet and enjoy the company of others with a common interest. Secondly, there are the many friendships and relationships
which have begun through the Club. As one member wrote recently;
There are, throughout the country, men who might never have met were it not for the club. Through the contact ads, social events and HosBearTality, many sound and satisfying friendships have been made. In some cases, relationships have been formed which have provided bears with the partner for whom they had been searching. I'm sure that these couples feel a debt of gratitude to Carl for the happiness they have found through the club. Sadly, Carl's death has reminded us of the cloud which hangs over our heads and casts a shadow over all our contacts with other men. It also reminds us of our need to support our friends and fellow-members if they become ill through HIV and AIDS. The idea of a memorial fund was proposed to Carl and discussed with him in the weeks before he died. He suggested that it should be used to help members who might find themselves in a similar position to himself. It was agreed that the Fund should be used, where possible, for members with HIV or AIDS to provide them with some item or facility which they might otherwise find difficult [or be unable] to obtain. If you are able to contribute to Carl's memorial please send a cheque or postal order payable to BCUK at the PO Box address below. Please avoid sending cash, but if you to, please use registered post. If you know of any member to good benefit from the Fund, you are invited to contact us. Any suggestions will be treated with discretion and in total confidence. All decisions concerning the Fund will be made by the club committee. BCUK PO Box 89 |
