Armadale 2 Whitburn 3, Scorers - Nicol, Gallacher, McGlynn

Colin L. Campbell had a couple of chances during the first half, the first came when he flicked the ball over his head and fired a left foot shot that the keeper saved at the post. Armadale scored after 7 minutes. A 30 yard shot dipped over Walker, but came back off the bar, leaving the keeper grounded as he attempted to save. Dale's McKean was first to react, and gathered the ball just inside the box before finding the net past the stranded Whitburn keeper.

Whitburn equalised after 20 minutes, from a corner kick on the left. Hannah sent in a good inswinging cross that was so close to the bar that the Armadale keeper couldn't hold the ball. It dropped for Keir Nicol who slammed the ball into the net for his first goal for Whitburn.

Iain Ramage went on a strong run through the centre, but his eventual shot was just past the post.

Armadale hit the bar with another long range effort, but this time it went over for a goal kick.

Colin L. Campbell had another chance when he broke through with just the keeper to beat, but was closed down and lost the opportunity.

Half time: Armadale 1 Whitburn 1

Whitburn came close when several players had chances in a goalmouth scramble, but nobody could was able to make the telling shot before the referee blew for an infringement.

Whitburn took the lead with a goal that had a bit of good luck about it. Scott Gallacher sent the ball into the box from wide on the left of the park. It went behind the defence, and was just out of reach of McGlynn near the penalty spot. The keeper hesitated thinking McGlynn would get to the ball, and was too late in diving to prevent the cross from creeping in to the far corner of the net.

Armadale equalised after 75 minutes, when a cross from the right cleared the Whitburn defence and was met by Laird at the back post who headed the ball into the net.

Whitburn went back in front almost immediately. Iain Ramage volleyed goalwards from 15 yards out, at the left of the box. The shot was heading across goal, but substitute Davy McGlynn reacted to steer the ball into the net.

Stuart Walker had a good game, and Whitburn had him to thank for preventing a late equaliser when he was alert to come out and close down an Armadale forward, who had broken through with only the keeper to beat.

Whitburn 0 Bo'ness 2

With a strong wind at their backs Whitburn applied some early pressure, but despite coming close on a couple of occasions they couldn't find the net. As the game progressed, Bo'ness came into it more, and almost opened the scoring from a 25 yard free kick that rattled the crossbar.

Colin L. Campbell had a great opportunity to score when he broke through with just the keeper to beat, but his effort was saved.

Half time: Whitburn 0 Bo'ness 0

Whitburn came close within a couple of minutes of the restart when McGlynn put in Campbell, but his shot went across the face of goal and out for a goal kick.

Bo'ness took the lead with a breakaway goal in the 50th minute. A misplaced Whitburn freekick gave possesion to Bo'ness who broke up the left of the park, and scored with a well placed shot from just inside the box, past the advancing Whitburn keeper.

Bo'ness went two goals up in the 60th minute when a cross from the goal line at the right of the park found the unmarked Ferguson at the back post and he headed home.

Walker prevented a third Bo'ness goal in the dying minutes when he saved with his feet after a Bo'ness forward had lost the defence and found himself with only the Whitburn keeper to beat

18-1-03

Doug n' Al Brown Cup first round

Armadale 2 Whitburn 1, Scorer - CL Campbell

Armadale opened the scoring in the 30th minute following a period of Whitburn pressure. A long clearance found a Dale forward on the right side of the park, with Whitburn out of position having pushed forward. The Armadale man made his way into the box where he found his path blocked, but the ball found it's way back to the edge of the box where an unmarked Armadale midfielder crossed to the far post for the ball to be headed home.

Walker came to Whitburn's rescue just before half time following an Armadale free kick at the edge of the box. The kick was hit powerfully towards goal, and Walker had it covered until it took a deflection. Wrong-footed and grounded, he still managed to react and get a foot to the ball as it was about to cross the goal line, and keep the score at 1-0 going in at half time.

Half time: Armadale 1 Whitburn 0

Whitburn equalised midway through the second half. Davy McGlynn dribbled his way to the byeline at the right of the goal and drilled a low shot across goal. The keeper half stopped it, but the shot was too powerful and found it's way through to CL Campbell, who had a simple tap in from a yard out.

Armadale almost restored their lead immediately, when they made space at the edge of the box for a shot that was just inches over the bar.

With 10 minutes remaining, Armadale went back in front. A deep cross from the right wing ended up at the back post where a Dale player scored with a diving header.

With a couple of minutes remaining, CL Campbell should have equalised for a second time, but with an open goal, he headed a good cross from McGlynn over the bar from just a couple of yards out.

Whitburn team : Walker, Clouston, Wilson(Taylor), CJ Campbell, Macdonald, Haddow, Hannah, CL Campbell, Gallacher(Barker), McGlynn, Ramage. Subs not used -  McSeveney, Nicol, Beveridge

League

Musselburgh 0 Whitburn 2, Scorers - CL Campbell, Barker

The first half was fairly even, with Musselburgh having more direct attempts at goal, none of which seriously threatened Stuart Walker's goal. He had to be alert on a couple of occasions though, first when he was in good position to confidently hold a snap shot from the edge of the box, then later when he got down quickly to save a low shot which he did well to hold, with a forward closing in.

Musselburgh's number 9 had to leave the field for several minutes to receive treatment following a strong, but fair, challenge from Scott Macdonald. Macdonald had a good game throughout, with him and Gary McSeveney

being the best of a good Whitburn defence.

Davy McGlynn showed excellent control on numerous occasions throughout the game, despite being closely policed, but unfortunately was unable to help break the deadlock.

Half time: Musselburgh 0 Whitburn 0

Fifteen minutes into the second half, Musselburgh should have taken the lead. Stuart Walker received a passback at the left side of the box, but waited too long before attempting to clear upfield. His clearance was charged down by Musselburgh's number 7 and the ball broke across goal for their centre forward. From six yards out, and the goal empty, he somehow managed to put the ball over the bar, much to the relief of Walker, and amazement of everyone else in the park.

Colin L. Campbell was putting in a hard working performance, full of running and willing to chase what looked like lost causes. His persistence gave Musselburgh's defence little time to dwell on the ball, and helped create several attacking opportunities for Whitburn.

Whitburn came close from a rehearsed free kick which ended with a cross to the far post being fired narrowly past.

With 15 minutes remaining, a Whitburn attack finally brought the opening goal. Musselburgh's defence was stretched, but Whitburn seemed reluctant to have a shot at goal, passing up a couple of opportunities inside the box. When McGlynn finally made space to shoot, enough defenders had got back and the shot was blocked. However, it fell for Colin L. Campbell at the left of the goal, and from 8 yards out he fired the ball into the net.

Charlie Barker, who had replaced Kier Nicol with 20 minutes remaining, put in a couple of good crosses from the right, but was unable to find a team mate.

Whitburn were content to see out time, a with CL Campbell and Davy McGlynn combining on the right to keep possession.

With a couple of minutes remaining Whitburn made sure of the points when they opted for a more positive approach. McGlynn played the ball through to Charlie Barker who cut along the bye-line before driving a powerful shot into the net from a tight angle.

7-12-02

OVD Scottish  cup 3rd round

Fauldhouse 3 Whitburn 1, Scorer - Ramage

Fauldhouse probably just deserved to win this game, by virtue of the fact they made fewest defensive mistakes, but it was not a game to remember.

The first half was well balanced for the most part, with both teams canceling each other out.

Stuart Walker came to Whitburn's rescue early on when he rushed from goal to just beat a forward to a through ball. He cleared the danger, but was injured in the process and needed treatment before continuing.

Then in the 25th minute Fauldhouse won a free kick just inside Whitburn's half. It was played high into the box, quickly enough to catch Whitburn out, and headed back across goal before being headed into the net.

Whitburn equalised from a corner kick in the 35th minute. Kenny Hannah hit the ball into the Fauldhouse 6 yard box where Iain Ramage was in position to knock it over the line.

Fauldhouse regained the lead just 3 minutes later with a goal that was a bit of a gift. A corner from the Fauldhouse left was crossed into the goalmouth where keeper Walker jumped and looked to have caught the ball. However, it was just too high and slipped through his grasp to be knocked over the line by an alert Fauldhouse forward.

Half time: Fauldhouse 2 Whitburn 1

Callum Milne replaced Gary McSeveney at half time, but unfortunately cost Whitburn the 3rd goal before he had time to settle into the game. Just 5 minutes into the half Milne tried to beat a Fauldhouse forward near the touchline, but lost the ball. It was hit across goal where a forward was waiting to knock it past the helpless Walker into the net.

Five minutes later, it should have been 4-1 when a Fauldhouse man broke through on Walker from half way. Walker was quickly off his line, but the forward should have done better than screw the ball past the keeper and the post from 20 yards.

For the remainder of the game, apart from a couple of breaks by Fauldhouse, Whitburn laid siege to the Fauldhouse goal, but a combination of poor finishing and good defending prevented them from scoring.

Bruce Clouston hit a dipping 30 yard shot that just went over, with the keeper struggling. Iain Ramage had a couple of chances with back post headers, but was blocked by covering defenders. Lloyd Haddow blazed over from 10 yards out following a corner, but the ball had fallen for his right foot and not his favoured left. Davy McGlynn hit a fierce 20 yard volley that was goalbound, but their were too many players between him and goal, and the ball richoched to safety. Clouston, Ramage and Nicol also all had further efforts that were either off target or blocked.

Despite all this pressure, it was Fauldhouse who had the best chance to score. With Whitburn pushing forward, and only a couple of minutes remaining, a breakaway ended with McMurray pulling a shot wide of goal from 8 yards, with the goal at his mercy following a cut back.

Finally, I can't let this report finish without a comment regarding the match program. To say that it was very disappointing is an understatement. Of 16 pages, no less than 9 were adverts. I object to being asked for money to read adverts and not what I thought, given the occasion, would have been some good reading on two local teams meeting in the Scottish cup for the first time in over 30 years. I must point out that this is my personal view, and not that of the Supporters Club. although everyone I spoke to agreed.

Sauchie 1 Whitburn 1, Scorer - McGlynn

Much of this game was played in a steady drizzle, and the pitch cut up very quickly, making it difficult for both teams to play any fluent football. Despite this, it was an entertaining game with a draw a fair result.

Despite the conditions, Whitburn managed to play some neat passing football, and came close to opening the scoring when Gallacher and McGlynn combined to set up Nicol, but his shot lacked power and was held comfortably by the keeper.

At the other end, Walker continued his run of good form with a couple of comfortable saves, instilling confidence in the defence by holding the ball in difficult conditions.

Iain Ramage went on one of his strong runs through the centre of the park Collecting the ball just inside the Sauchie half, he went on a strong run through the middle which took him past several defenders and into the right of the penalty area. He cut the ball across goal, but unfortunately Nicol, having made a run to get into good position, was unable to capitalise.

Scott Macdonald, back in the centre of defence following the departure of Kevin Henderson, did an excellent sweepers job in the 25th minute, coming across to beat a Sauchie player to a through ball which would have seen the player with a clear run on goal. Macdonald just got to the ball first, and was injured in the process for which the Sauchie player was booked. Macdonald was able to continue after treatment, and had a solid game throughout.

Whitburn opened the scoring after 30 minutes, when Lloyd Haddow played an incisive pass through the middle and into the box, for Davy McGlynn to run onto and beat the keeper comfortably.

Five minutes from half time, a cross into the Whitburn box ended with a header being saved by Walker.

Half time: Sauchie 0 Whitburn 1

Sauchie equalised 10 minutes into the second half, with a goal that was unfortunate from Whitburn's point of view, but not surprising given the conditions. Whitburn lost possession on their left flank, and with the Whitburn defence backtracking, the ball was driven low across goal. It took a slight deflection off the boot of McSeveney, which was enough to cause it to strike the knee of CJ Campbell and end up in the net.

By this time the pitch had become very muddy, and as a result both teams struggled to move the ball about.

In the final minute, Stuart Walker made sure Whitburn would go home with a point when he was quick to come out of his goal and beat a Sauchie forward to a through ball, with Whitburn's defence unable to get back.

League

Whitburn 4 Camelon 3, Scorers - McGlynn(pen), Hannah(2), Gallacher

Whitburn picked up 3 valuable league points, but had to work right to the end against a stubborn Camelon side.

The opening period was fairly even, with both teams canceling each other out, and few goalmouth incidents.

Whitburn took the lead from the penalty spot after 25 minutes, Davy McGlynn converting the kick after Scott Gallacher had been manhandled inside the box.

Stuart Walker continued his good form when he dived to his left to turn a 20 yard free kick round the post. The save was all the better, having taken a slight deflection as it came through the wall, causing him to readjust.

McGlynn almost scored when he made space at the edge of the box and shot for goal. The keeper was beaten, but there wasn't much power in the shot and it was cleared comfortably as it rolled towards the empty net.

After 35 minutes it was 2-0, when Kenny Hannah cut inside from the right after being fed by Gallacher, and hit a low angled shot that beat the keeper at his near post.

Hannah put in a couple of good crosses from the right that caused problems for the Camelon defence. The first found no takers, but the second was headed goalward by McGlynn, but he was stretching and couldn't get enough on the header which was saved.

Camelon pulled a goal back a minute before half time. Darrel Drew sent over a cross from the right, and the unmarked McKinley picked his spot in the net with a well placed header..

Half time: Whitburn 2 Camelon 1

Camelon came out for the second half looking determined, and found the equaliser after just 5 minutes. A corner kick from the left found the head of Sinclair at the near post and he powered it past Walker. Just before that another corner had caused panic in the Whitburn goalmouth, but on that occasion Whitburn escaped unpunished.

Whitburn had a great chance to score when Hannah played a neat ball through the middle to McGlynn. His first touch was excellent, controlling the ball as it dropped over his right shoulder, and his second was a powerful shot at goal from 12 yards that needed an excellent save from the keeper to keep out.

Whitburn regained the lead in the 70th minute. Colin J. Campbell played a free kick into the six yard box, and Kenny Hannah reacted first to fire home at the second attempt, his first effort being blocked by the keeper.

Whitburn were fortunate not to concede a goal when Darrell Drew was allowed space to run forward before striking the ball from 25 yards. Walker couldn't get to it, but it rattled the crossbar and went over.

In the 75th minute, Scott Gallacher made it 4-2. Good work by McGlynn on the left of the area allowed him to drive the ball across goal. It was missed by everyone in the centre of the goalmouth, but came through to Gallacher at the back post who tapped home.

Camelon pulled a goal back from a free kick wide on the right. Their forward appeared to be sitting with the ball trapped between his legs, however the referee strangely awarded a free kick against Ramage who was trying to kick the ball. The ball was crossed into the goal and headed home past the helpless Walker.

Both teams had another couple of chances each in the last 5 minutes. Whitburn had chances inside the box with first McGlynn then Gallacher, McGlynn failing to hit the target and Gallacher being crowded out. Camelon had the final effort, a low shot that Walker did well to save and not spill as a Camelon forward was ready to pounce.

East of Scotland cup 2nd round

Whitburn 0 Fauldhouse 2,

Whitburn dominated the opening 25 minutes, bur couldn't convert their superiority to goals. They did manage to put the ball in the net twice during the first half, but both times were ruled offside.

McGlynn beat the keeper and a defender to the ball at the right of the area, and managed to hook the ball back into the goalmouth, but their was no Whitburn player in position to take advantage.

Gallacher then had a good shot on the turn from the edge of the box, but this was saved by the keeper.

Colin J Campbell hit a fierce drive from 20 yards, but their were too many bodies in the box and the shot was blocked.

After having controlled the play from the start, Whitburn conceded a goal from defensive errors after 25 minutes. Macdonald, playing at left back, failed to win the ball in a tackle at the touchline, allowing Fauldhouse to break clear on the right. When the ball was played across the edge of the box, it was missed by 2 Whitburn players, allowing a Fauldhouse man to collect and steer the ball past Walker.

Fauldhouse won a free kick at the edge of the box a few minutes later. The kick was well hit, but hit the defensive wall and spun over fro a corner.

Colin J. Campbell almost equalised with a powerful 25 yard shot that was heading for the top corner until the keeper dived to tip it over the bar.

Half time: Whitburn 0 Fauldhouse 1

Straight from the kick off, Fauldhouse went 2-0 ahead. A high ball was played into the box which McMurray managed to get his head to before Walker, stranding the Whitburn keeper at the penalty spot. The ball bounced towards goal, but looked to be covered by Bruce Clouston. However, Bruce's touch let him down and the ball ended up in the net.

Both teams had chances during the second half, but their was no further scoring.

For Whitburn, Hannah hit a shot across goal that went past the far post, and McSeveney and Ramage both had shots off target.

Fauldhouse also came close on a couple of occasions, but were denied by good saves from goalkeeper Walker.

Whitburn took the lead after 20 minutes with a cracking goal. A misplaced pass gifted the ball to Paul Taylor on the left, and he had time to look up before sending a long ball into the path of Davy McGlynn. McGlynn controlled the ball with his first touch, and steered it past the keeper into the net with his second.

Port Glasgow almost equalised from a free kick on the edge of the area after Macdonald had brought down an attacker, and was booked for his efforts. The free kick was well struck and was goal bound until Walker dived to his right to turn it past the post.

Half time: Port Glasgow 0 Whitburn 1

Good work between Gallacher and Hannah set up McGlynn inside the area, but his shot was blocked by the keeper.

Ten minutes into the second half, Whitburn extended their lead. Davy McGlynn broke into the box but saw his shot well blocked by the keeper. The ball broke out of the box and fell for Iain Ramage who sent a right foot shot from 20 yards into the empty net.

The game, which had developed into a bit of a stalemate, burst into life in the 75th minute. Port Glasgow took advantage of some slack defending to pull a goal back, a through ball catching out the Whitburn defence, and allowing the forward to round Walker and score.

Straight from the restart, Whitburn lost possession and Port Glasgow went upfield to score the equaliser, stunning the Whitburn players and supporters.

Port Glasgow almost took the lead a few minutes later, but were denied by a fine save from Walker, who touched the ball onto the bar.

With five minutes remaining, Iain Ramage put Whitburn back in front when he shrugged off the challenge of 2 Port players, ran towards goal and hit a low drive from 25 yards, that found the bottom corner of the net.

Keir Nicol had an excellent chance in the final minute when McGlynn laid the ball off for him in front of goal. However, he failed to control the ball and the chance was lost.

Newtongrange 0 Whitburn 1, Scorer - Taylor

The first scoring chance fell to Newtongrange after 15 minutes. Good work through the middle allowed the forward a clear shot at goal from the edge of the box, but he shot over the bar.

In 20 minutes, Whitburn were awarded an indirect free kick on the six yard line, after the keeper had picked up a pass-back. The ball was touched to Paul Taylor, and his well struck drive came down off the underside of the bar, struck one of the defenders on the back of the leg and went into the net.

A couple of minutes later, Colin L. Campbell used his pace to get onto a through ball, but his angled shot from the right of the area went wide of the far post.

Ramage, at the back post, just failed to get his head to a flick on from a corner on the right for what would have been a certain goal had he connected.

Newtongrange had another chance 5 minutes from half time when they broke into the box, however Walker was quick off his line to deny the attacker who went under the challenge. Newtongrange appealed for a penalty, but it wasn't given.

Half time: Newtongrange 0 Whitburn 1

The second half was scrappy, with Newtongrange trying to find an equaliser, but not seriously threatening Whitburn's goal.

They came close when a cross from the left looked to be dropping over Walker and in at the far post, but he kept his eye on the ball and put it out for a corner.

Whitburn substitute, Haggart, hit a powerful 25 yard drive in the final minute that was on target, but was blocked by a defender.

Bo'ness had a good chance to score from a right wing cross, but the ball was headed wide.

Whitburn replied when Davy McGlynn went on a run down the right, that ended when his angled shot was well off target.

Iain Ramage scored the only goal of the game in the 25th minute. He collected a pass from Gallacher with his back to goal, turned and hit a left foot shot that found the top corner of the net.

Paul Taylor tried a long range effort that the keeper had to be alert to deal with.

Walker kept Whitburn ahead a couple of minutes before half time, when he dived low to push a 20 yard shot from Wood round the post.

Half time: Whitburn 1 Bo'ness 0

Bo'ness dominated the second half, putting Whitburn's goal under pressure, but were unable to find an equaliser thanks to determined defending and some excellent saves by Stuart Walker in goal.

A couple of times, Walker took the pressure off his defenders when he jumped to claim high balls into the box, then midway through the half, he dived full length to tip a 25 yard shot over the bar.

Whitburn came close to opening the scoring after only 3 minutes. Fauldhouse conceded a free kick 20 yards out which was rolled to the side for Colin J Campbell to hit a low drive that came back off the post and just eluded the foot of Peter Wilson who was following up.

Fauldhouse responded by causing the Whitburn defence problems from another free kick from wide on the left. The ball was played low into the box and bounced just short of Walker, however a Whitburn man was in position to clear.

The only goal of the came in the 15th minute, Peter Wilson heading home a near post corner from Hannah on the right.

Haddow had a powerful shot after 25 minutes, that needed a great diving save by the keeper to prevent a goal, and at the other end just a couple of minutes later a Fauldhouse free kick beat Walker but came back off the post.

Five minutes from half time, Ramage looked as though he had scored from a knock on by McGlynn, but under pressure from a defender, the ball somehow went over the bar from almost on the goal line.

Half time: Fauldhouse 0 Whitburn 1

Whitburn were reduced to 10 men within five minutes of the restart. Haddow was booked for dissent, and followed this up with a rash tackle just a minute later, for which he was ordered off.

Fauldhouse came close to equalising when McMurray looped a header over Walker, but it came back off the post. They came close again when the number 10 just failed to get on the end of a cross from the left with Walker beaten.

Good work between McGlynn and Hannah on the left almost brought a goal, but Hannah's driven cross from the left byeline was just too high for Ramage, unmarked at the back post.

Whitburn worked hard during the second half to prevent Fauldhouse from creating many opportunities, and given that they were a man down for 40 minutes, deservedly went home with all 3 points.

Bo'ness 3 Whitburn 3, Scorers - Gallacher. CL Campbell(2)

Bo’ness were the first to come close to scoring when Callum Milne headed clear on the goal-line.

Whitburn replied in the 5th minute when McGlynn received a cross from Taylor, but couldn’t hit the target.

Whitburn went ahead after 15 minutes following a good move on the right. McGlynn played the ball through for Gallacher who beat the keeper to score with a well-placed shot.

Five minutes later Whitburn were 2-0 ahead thanks to the sharpness of Colin L Campbell. Taylor took a corner from the right that looked as though it was curling out of play. However, it hit the base of the post and Campbell was quickest to react and blasted the ball home.

Bo’ness came back at Whitburn, and Todd hit a 30 yard shot just over, then in the 25th minute, their centre should have done better than put a free header over the bar from inside the 6 yard box, following a corner kick.

Half time:  Bo'ness 0 Whitburn 2

Bo’ness took the game to Whitburn in the second half, and pulled a goal back just 4 minutes after the restart, the ball finally being hit home following a goalmouth scramble.

Straight from the restart, Whitburn went forward and restored their 2-goal advantage. Gallacher got free on the right and hit a low cross into the box for CL Campbell to score his 2nd goal of the game.

In the 57th minute, Walker kept Whitburn 2 goals ahead with a good save when he managed to get a hand to a goal bound shot whilst grounded.

Bo’ness scored again after 62 minutes when the Whitburn defence failed to react to a long throw in, allowing a Bo’ness player to knock the ball home at the near post.

In the 75th minute some neat footwork by Taylor took him away from 2 Bo’ness players. He ran forward before setting up Hannah on the right of the box, but his shot went straight at the keeper who put it out for a corner.

Bo’ness equalised after 82 minutes, after Haggart, playing his first game of the season, lost the ball on the left. It was quickly played into the box where it was hit home.

A minute later, Bo’ness almost took the lead with a header that went over the bar.

Two minute from the end, Gallacher had a chance to win the game, but he was unable to convert a good deep cross by CL Campbell on the right.

Camelon 3 Whitburn 1, Scorer - Milne(pen)

The question everyone must be asking after this game, is how did Whitburn end up losing when they almost totally dominated from start to finish. The answer is that they couldn’t put the ball in the net despite having numerous chances, and also that they came up against a goalkeeper, Ronnie Macpherson, in top form.

Mention must be made of Camelon’s playing surface which was in excellent condition, and must be one of the best in the league.

The pattern for the game was set as early as the 2nd minute, when Scott Gallacher got into the box and hit an angled shot with the outside of his right foot that beat Macpherson, but just went past the post.

Camelon took the lead a minute later following a mistake by Whitburn, when a misdirected pass found its way to McKinley inside Whitburn’s box. He was tackled, but, typically of the way the luck was to run for the rest of the game, he got the break of the ball and steered it past Walker into the net.

In the 6th minute Whitburn almost scored from a great move. Gilmour was released on the left and ran up the touchline, beating a defender and delivering a perfect cross into the box. Iain Ramage had timed his run to perfection and met the ball at the edge of the 6 yard box, but unfortunately his powerful header was directed straight at the keeper.

A couple of minutes later Hannah headed the ball down for CL Campbell on the left of the box. Campbell hit a tremendous first time volley from a tight angle but Macpherson was well positioned at his post to beat the ball away.

In the 14th minute CL Campbell again came close with a shot that, like Gallacher’s earlier, went just past the post.

With only their second venture into Whitburn’s box, Camelon found themselves 2-0 ahead with another gifted goal. A cross into the box caused a misunderstanding in the defence that saw Milne head the ball back into his own goal, past Walker who had come out to meet the cross.

To their credit Whitburn continued to dominate the game and play was confined to Camelon’s half for the remainder of the half.

In the 25th minute Hannah almost scored direct from a corner on the left, but Macpherson managed to save.

Iain Ramage made a good run through the middle, beating a couple of defenders and set himself up for a shot from the edge of the box. However, his effort wasn’t struck cleanly and Macpherson made a comfortable save.

In the 43rd minute, CL Campbell hit a good shot on the turn that went just over the bar. Moments later, a quick free kick released Haddow in the right of the box, but his driven cross was too high for anyone to get on the end of.

In the 44th minute Ramage was set up by a neat lay off from Gallacher, but his shot went over the bar.

The last action of the half was a long range effort by Camelon that didn’t trouble keeper Walker.

Half time:  Camelon 2 Whitburn 0

Whitburn maintained their dominance in the second half and within the first couple of minutes had a penalty claim turned down, and came close with a header by Ramage.

In the 50th minute, Whitburn’s relentless pressure finally paid off when Gilmour was pulled down in the box, and Milne scored from the penalty spot.

In the 55th minute, Gilmour shot over following a pass from Hannah.

Camelon then enjoyed a couple of minutes of respite with a couple of breaks into Whitburn’s half. The first resulted in a booking for Iain Ramage who attempted to bring down Darrel Drew to prevent a breakaway. Drew got clear though, and should have done better than shooting past with only Walker to beat.

A minute later Camelon came close with a header from a deep cross, and this was followed by Walker having to be quick to come out and block an attacker who almost got on the end of a short passback.

In the 70th minute Gilmour saw a powerful 30-yard left foot shot brilliantly tipped over the bar by Macpherson.

Camelon responded with another breakaway that ended with their substitute shooting over the bar.

Hannah was next to try his luck with another long range effort, but again Macpherson was alert and tipped the ball over.

Whitburn looked to have equalised in the 80th minute, but were denied with a great double save by Macpherson. Gallacher had the first attempt from 10 yards, but the keeper dived to block. The ball bounced up for Ramage to power in a header, but somehow the keeper managed to recover and made another excellent save.

In the 83rd minute, Hannah came close with yet another long range shot.

With Whitburn having tried everything they could to find the net, Camelon ended the game on the attack. In the 88th minute they had a shot that went over the bar, followed a minute later by a penalty claim that was turned down.

In the final minute, Camelon made sure of the points when the centre scored with a breakaway goal, knocking the ball past the advancing Walker at the edge of the box.

Whitburn’s dominance of this game was underlined by the fact that Camelon didn’t have a single corner kick during the entire game, but it’s goals that count.

Whitburn 1 Pumpherston 0, Scorer - Gallacher

There was a torrential downpour just before kick off, with the rain continuing for much of the first half, making it difficult for the players to stay on their feet.

There were numerous stoppages and bookings, with the referee producing several yellow cards in the early stages, making it difficult to imagine the teams ending the game with eleven players. McGlynn was first in the book after he was booked for diving in the box.

The first half was quite an even contest, with defences on top, and neither keeper having a notable save to make. McGlynn had a first time effort from a knock down by Gallacher, but the keeper was in the right position to make a comfortable catch.

Pumpherston replied with a breakaway which resulted in a shot being saved by Walker.

Just before half time, Whitburn won a free kick just outside the box after Hannah was brought down as he made a good run forward. The kick was rolled to Hannah on the right of the area, but the move broke down when the referee got in Hannah's way.

Half time:  Whitburn 0 Pumpherston 0

The second half produced more clear chances, and Pumpherston had one of the best midway through the half. A good run up the left ended with a deep cross to the far post. The ball cleared Whitburn's defence and dropped to the Pumpherston substitute who should have done better than head the ball wide.

A minute later Pumpherston again came close. Walker was beaten in a race to a through ball, and was helpless as the ball was lobbed over him towards goal. However, Milne was in position to cover the goal and was able to clear.

Whitburn took the lead with 15 minutes remaining following a corner from the left. The ball was played into the crowded 18 yard box, and with Whitburn players slow to react, Pumpherston seemed to have time to clear the ball. However, a high bounce gave Ramage time to challenge and head the ball down to Gallacher at the edge of the area, and he hit a powerful low drive into the corner of the net.

McGlynn had a great chance to maintain his record of scoring in every game he has played in this season. Former Whitburn player, Grant Fairley, misjudged a cross from the right and the ball dropped to McGlynn. He controlled the ball, but unusually for him, waited too long before shooting, allowing a covering defender to make a clearing tackle.

Pumpherston had a chance to equalise when their second substitute got clear on the right, but he hurried his shot and it went wide of goal.

Whitburn's Barker, a substitute for Lloyd Haddow, was sent off with 10 minutes remaining for attempting to kick a Pumpherston player who had pulled him back as he broke clear.

Bonnybridge 2 Whitburn 3, Scorers - Gallacher, McGlynn(2)

New signing Scott Macdonald took his place at the centre of defence, for his first game for Whitburn.

Iain Ramage came close for Whitburn with a header from a good cross by Hannah.

Bonnybridge took the lead when the number 10 ran on to a high through ball. He beat Walker to the ball at the edge of the box and headed it past the Whitburn keeper before rolling the ball into the net.

Whitburn equalised within 3 minutes. Kenny Hannah took a corner from the left which Scott Gallacher did well to get to and find the net with a powerful header.

McGlynn came close to putting Whitburn ahead 5 minutes from half time, with a well-struck free kick from 20 yards out. He got past the wall and the shot was on target, but Bonnybridge had a player on the goal line who headed clear.

Half time:  Bonnybridge 1 Whitburn 1

Whitburn almost scored in the first minute of the second half. Charlie Barker, who had replaced Hannah just before half time, got clear on the right, following a great pass from Haddow, and hit a low ball across the face of goal. No Whitburn player was in position to get to the ball that looked to be heading harmlessly across goal when it took a freak bounce and struck the far post before running along the line and being saved.

Whitburn took the lead after 60 minutes with a typically ruthless bit of finishing from Davy McGlynn. Bruce Clouston hit a long ball from his own half that beat the defenders and dropped behind them. McGlynn had anticipated them missing the ball and ran onto it to fire a powerful volley past the keeper from just inside the box.

The lead didn't last long as Bonnybridge equalised five minutes later. Whitburn had chances to clear the ball, but lack of communication caused a mix up in defence which resulted in the ball being headed home with Walker out of position.

From the kick off, Lloyd Haddow was unlucky not to score a spectacular goal when he hit a shot from his own half that beat keeper Watson, but struck the post.

McGlynn almost scored a replica of his first goal when he again got behind the defence, and on to a through ball. He rounded the keeper and was brought down by a defender as he was about to shoot, and the ball rolled past the post. It looked like a penalty but the referee disagreed, although, strangely, he awarded a goal kick.

Taylor was unlucky not to score after 75 minutes when he hit a great left foot shot that keeper Watson somehow managed to beat away.

Whitburn regained the lead a couple of minutes later with another goal from Davy McGlynn. He exchanged passes with Gallacher inside the box before making room for a shot. The first effort was saved by the keeper, but he couldn't hold it and McGlynn followed up to score with his second attempt.

With a couple of minutes remaining, Bonnybridge keeper, Derek Watson, had a great reaction save to get a hand to a well struck shot by Lloyd Haddow from 8 yards out at the left of goal.

Whitburn 3 Newtongrange 2,  Scorer - McGlynn(3)

Whitburn took the lead after 15 minutes when Davie McGlynn collected a pass into the box from Campbell, and did well to steer the ball past the keeper and into the net.

Newtongrange almost equalised 10 minutes later when hesitancy in the Whitburn defence allowed the forward to lob the ball past the stranded Walker, but it bounced just wide of the post.

In the 30th minute McGlynn made it 2-0 for Whitburn when he was in position to tap home the loose ball after the keeper failed to hold a low shot by Hannah.

Gilmour then came close with a header, but it was Newtongrange who scored next, with a 20 yard shot after Whitburn had failed to take their opportunities to clear the ball.

Whitburn had a claim for a penalty for hand ball turned down in the 44th minute, and at the other end a minute later, Walker brought off a great reaction save, getting a hand to a goal bound effort. The Whitburn keeper had earlier had another fine save when he rushed from his line to smother a shot after Newtongrange had broken clear.

Half time:  Whitburn 2 Newtongrange 1

Whitburn had another penalty claim for hand ball turned down just after the break, and in the 65th minute Newtongrange also had a penalty turned down after Rixon went down in the box following a tackle by McSeveney. The Newtongrange man reacted by chasing after the referee, and was ordered off.

In the 66th minute Iain Ramage came close with a header, from a cross by McSeveney, and in the 70th minute Hannah should have scored with a header following a cross by McGlynn, but the ball went wide.

Newtongrange equalised in the 75th minute with a header following a cross from the right, but a couple of minutes later Whitburn regained the lead. Haddow played the ball through the centre to McGlynn just inside the box. He had his back to goal, but spun to steer the ball past the keeper into the goal to complete his hat trick.

Haddow was sent off in the 89th minute when he received his second booking of the match.

League cup 3rd round

Sauchie 3 Whitburn 1,  Scorer - Ramage

Apart from a couple long-range efforts from Lloyd Haddow, and one from Paul Taylor, there was little excitement in the first half until just before half time. Five minutes from the interval Sauchie almost scored with a breakaway goal, but Walker came to Whitburn's rescue with a brave save. He was injured in the process but was able to continue.

The opening goal was only delayed though, as a minute later Sauchie had another chance with a breakaway, which this time they scored from.

Whitburn responded a couple of minutes later when Ramage broke from half-way, beat a couple of defenders and ran in on goal. He rounded the keeper, but with 2 defenders managing to get back between him and the goals, he elected to roll the ball to Gilmour who side footed it into the net. The referee decided that the 2 defenders in the six-yard box still left Gilmour in an offside position and disallowed the goal.

Half time:  Sauchie 1 Whitburn 0

Whitburn started the second half positively, and equalised within 5 minutes. Bruce Clouston sent over a cross from the right that Iain Ramage met perfectly to head home.

Sauchie regained the lead in the 60th minute with a controversial goal. They broke down the right before the ball was crossed from the goal line to the near post. McSeveney was beaten to the ball which was played into the goalmouth before being fired home. Whitburn players complained to the referee that the ball had crossed the goal line before it was crossed, but the goal stood.

Haddow came close with a driven ball across the face of goal that needed a touch, but nobody was close enough to provide one.

Sauchie clinched the tie with 10 minutes remaining. Walker attempted to punch clear from a corner, but failed to connect properly and the ball fell to a Sauchie player. He played the ball back into the goalmouth where it was fired home.

Barker had a good chance to pull a goal back when he was sent through on the right by Haddow, but he cut back inside instead of shooting and lost the opportunity.

Bo'ness 4 Whitburn 1,  Scorer - McGlynn

Whitburn should have opened the scoring after 4 minutes when McGlynn crossed from the left for Ramage in front of goal, but he failed to connect. Bo’ness made no mistake a couple of minutes later, a good move pulling Whitburn’s defence out of position, before Muirhead blasted the ball home from a cut back.

Whitburn equalised in the 12th minute with a great individual goal from Davy McGlynn. He received the ball from a throw-in on the left, dribbled past 3 defenders at the edge of the box and steered the ball low into the net from just inside the area.

McGlynn almost scored again a minute later when he got clear on the right, but he pulled his shot wide.

Iain Ramage then came close for Whitburn, when he got on the end of a perfect cross by CL Campbell, but the keeper made a great diving save from his header.

Bo’ness went 2-1 ahead when Herd collected the ball at the half way line and went on a run, beating 3 Whitburn defenders and rounding keeper Walker to score.

Half time:  Bo'ness 2 Whitburn 1

Whitburn brought on Clouston for Barker at half time, but never seriously threatened the Bo’ness goal, and Bo’ness deservedly finished 4-1 winners.

The 3rd goal came from a breakaway on the left, which ended in the Bo’ness man taking the ball round Walker on the left before finding the net from a tight angle. The 4th goal saw Herd beat the offside trap before scoring with a well judged lob from 25 yards out.

Callum Milne was sent off with 5 minutes remaining for violent conduct.

League cup 2nd round

Whitburn 3 Edinburgh 2,  Scorers - Gilmour, Wilson, McGlynn

Much of the first half was played in a heavy shower of rain, and as the game went on, the park became heavier, making it difficult to control the ball. To their credit though, the teams served up an entertaining game.

Colin L Campbell had a great chance to open the scoring after 8 minutes, following a good build up on the left. McGlynn backheeled the ball to Gilmour who crossed the ball into the middle of the box. The cross was perfect for the inrushing Campbell, but unfortunately he put his header past, with only the keeper to beat.

Edinburgh hit back and opened the scoring 2 minutes later with a back post header from a free kick on the right of the park.

Whitburn equalised in the 20th minute when a quick free kick by Milne found Gilmour cutting behind the defence from the left, and his right foot volley went in of the post.

Peter Wilson scored his first goal for Whitburn to make the score 2-1 in the 30th minute. A shot by Ramage was saved by the keeper and fell to Wilson. He miskicked at the first attempt, but scored with his second, despite being on the ground at the time.

Edinburgh scored a cracking equaliser in the 41st minute when their substitute, who had just come on, gathered the ball on the right and cut inside before beating Walker with a dipping shot from 25 yards.

Half time:  Whitburn 2 Edinburgh 2

Whitburn kept almost constant pressure on Edinburgh's defence, trying to win the game without a penalty shoot out, and only combination of bad luck and good defending kept the scores level.

Callum Milne hit a great right foot drive from the right of the area that clipped the outside of the post. The keeper had a good diving save to turn a CL Campbell shot round the post, and the same player was unlucky later when a header dropped onto the top of the bar and went over.

With the game looking like going to penalties, Whitburn grabbed a last minute winner that was thoroughly deserved. Iain Ramage had a shot from the edge of the box that came back off the post, but this time McGlynn was on hand to tap the ball into the net.

Whitburn 2 Musselburgh 1, Scorers - o.g., McGlynn

Robert Beveridge injured himself in the opening minutes making a good reaction save, but was able to continue until half time.

Colin L Campbell and Davy McGlynn were combining well up front, and created a couple of chances which weren't converted.

Whitburn opened the scoring 5 minutes from half time with an own goal. Davy McGlynn collected the ball on the right of the box, turned quickly and hit a low shot, which deflected off a defender and bounced into the net.

Half time:  Whitburn 1 Musselburgh 0

Musselburgh began to put Whitburn under some pressure and equalised following a corner kick. Stewart Walker, half time substitute for Beveridge, punched the corner clear but went down injured following a collision with an attacker. The ball fell to a Musselburgh man outside the box and he lobbed it into the net, over the players still in the box and Barker an Ramage on the line, who couldn't keep it out.

Whitburn scored the winner in the75th minute. Stuart Gilmour did well on the left, beating two men before crossing the ball into the box. Davy McGlynn, again showing excellent control, chested the ball down and blasted it into the net past the goalkeeper.

Whitburn 4 Arniston 0 , Scorers - McGlynn(2), CJ Campbell, CL Campbell

New signings Gary McSeveney and Peter Wilson both played in defence from the start.

Whitburn took the lead in the 30th minute with a spectacular goal. Colin J Campbell sent a long clearance from midway inside his own half to the edge of Arniston's box. Davy McGlynn showed excellent control, bringing the ball down with his thigh with his first touch and slamming it into the net with his second.

McGlynn in particular, assisted by CL Campbell and Gallacher, was causing problems for the Arniston defence, and almost scored again in the 38th minute when his low shot hit the post.

Half time:  Whitburn 1 Arniston 0

Whitburn started the second half by scoring within 5 seconds for what must be the quickest second half goal ever seen at Central Park. Whitburn kicked off and played the ball back to CJ Campbell at the edge of the centre circle. Spotting the keeper off his line, Campbell hit a long ball, from 10 yards inside his own half, over the keeper and into the net.

McGlynn got his second goal 5 minutes later, collecting a knock down from Gallacher inside the box before firing home.

Colin L Campbell made it 4-0 in the 60th minute when he ran onto a ball which had been headed on by McGlynn, steadied himself and rolled the ball past the keeper into the goal.

Arniston put some pressure on the Whitburn goal, and Walker had to be alert on a couple of occasions to keep his clean sheet in goal. With 15 minutes remaining, Walker did well to prevent a goal in a six-yard box scramble, injuring himself in the process and having to be replaced. Mattie Coulter came on and Iain Ramage went into goal, doing well when needed, to prevent Arniston from scoring.
