With Stewart Walker suspended following his sending off against Pollok, Whitburn have signed keeper Ross Gilpin from East Stirlingshire.

Ross was previously with St Johnstone where he played alongside Colin Strickland in the youth team. He had played  10 games for the Shire this season, his last being against Elgin on 15th January, and despite being beaten 3-0, Ross was named as Man of the Match.

The following is a quote from the East Stirlingshire website match report.

"It could have been much worse for Shire when keeper Ross Gilpin saved them from going further behind with a miracle save from a Donnachie header after Martin had again supplied the cross.
Shire continued to huff and puff without making any headway, and it was down to Shire's man-of-the match Gilpin to keep the goal line respectable with a mixture of brave and super stops."

Looks like Ross should be another good signing for the club.

Transfer news

Whitburn have transferred international striker Andy Hume to Camelon. He has struggled to find a place in new manager Derek Strickland's team. Andy, who was signed from Stenhousemuir in 1997 played a major role in last season's Scottish Cup run, scoring 10 goals and forming a great partnership with Colin Campbell (now with Glenafton), that saw both rewarded with an international call-up.
My outstanding memory from those goals was the winner he scored against Neilston in the final minute of the 5th round match, just a minute after Neilston had scored an equaliser which everyone thought had earned them a replay.
The Supporters Club wish Andy good luck with his new club and thank him for his contribution to Whitburn's success.

Whitburn have moved quickly to fill the position of team manager following the resignation of Brian McNaughton and Keith Burgess.
Derek Strickland, who has been manager at Stoneyburn for the past few seasons, takes the post for the second time, having previously been in charge from 1991 until 1994.

10-6-00

Managers resign.

According to reports on the Junior football newsgroup, Brian McNaughton and Keith Burgess today resigned from their posts at Whitburn to take over at Linlithgow. It would appear that Linlithgow have once again flashed their chequebook to attract what they perceive to be other teams assets. I suppose that's just football.
The Supporters Club would like to thank Brian and Keith for their efforts over the past season, and particularly for bringing the Scottish Cup to Whitburn.
