• Help to create the management expertise required by innovation centred companies.
• Motivate and give status to management staff required to deliver innovation.
• Provide training for others concerned with influencing the business innovation process. E.g., trade union officials, private inventors, some civil servants, politicians.

In order to ensure that the award reflected a long term commitment towards the management of innovation, it could consist of an initial study component plus an innovation managers log book which would need to be maintained for say three years. The log book would record points earned by attending conferences, seminars, short courses on innovation etc.

The study component could dovetail into existing MBA courses for management, to keep the amount of additional studying to a minimum.

The award could be funded by registration, tuition and examination fees, as for other awards.
