Runcorn 2 - 1 Whitby Town

UniBond Premier League.

Saturday, 7th March 2001.

Runcorn Wallow in the mud as Whitby sink.

First I would like to give some praise to the band of staff & supporters who made this game playable with some hard work on Saturday morning, At 10am the pitch looked more like the Lake District so well done.......!!

The conditions were always a problem during this game but the young players for Runcorn really showed their worth with a gritty performance, Runcorn started the game in a positive mood & almost scored from a free kick from Robinson going just wide. The game went from end to end but Runcorn had the better of things until a rash tackle by Tomlinson gave Whitby a penalty in the 17 minute, But the Whitby skipper Cramman hit the penalty against the post (see Pic 1).  Whitby,s Danny Key hit the bar shortly after this but Runcorn kept in the game & took the lead in the 41st minute with a well placed shot from John McAllister  (see Pic No 5 on its way & no6 Keeper Campbell has no chance).

In the second half Runcorn took the game to the visitors & scored a second goal through Gary Lunt in the 62nd minute. Whitby got there consolation goal with a well placed free kick in the 86 min through Cramman which was diverted into the net by Runcorns Peter Ellis ( see pic No 9).
