29 young people and 18 adults (helpers and learners) met at The Indian Club, Rugby, for a fun-filled day of fun, games and music-making. They were joined in the afternoon by members of Bilton Silver (Rugby) Band for a final rehearsal, culminating in a Grand Performance at 3.30pm. By this time, they had grown to a fantastic band of 56 brass and percussion players, ages ranging from 6 to over 70, and experience ranging from "this was my first day" to "I've been playing for over 60 years". The audience was an appreciative mix of family and friends, and judging from the smiles and applause, they were bowled over! The concert featured music from Scooby-Doo and Harry Potter and finished with a foot-stomping, hand-clapping rendition of "Amarillo". One young player asked on the way out "Are you doing it again next year?" and was delighted to hear that, yes, we hope to make this an annual event. The day was funded by a private donation, for which we are very grateful. |
