Bilton Silver Training Band Junior
Contest 2004
On Friday 2nd April, 9 young members of the Bilton Silver Training Band took
part in the annual Junior Contest.
Adjudicated by David Birch, there were 3 classes: Open Slow Melody, Open Air-Varie and an Ensemble Contest for those aged 19 years and under. Apart from these classes the other major competition was for the Norman Knight Trophy. Norman Knight was a former conductor of the Bilton Band and this contest, open to those aged 14 years and under, is made up of various elements of musicianship (theory, aural, attendance at band practice, performance of a solo in the slow melody contest and deportment ).
The well-attended contest, at the Bilton Social Club, was followed by a brief performance by the Training Band.
Before the awards were made, David Birch made some valuable comments about the choice and performance of solos in contests.
Credit must go to all performers but it was a special night for 10 year old Jodie Fisher, who won the Open Slow Melody and Air-Varie Contests, the Norman Knight Trophy and was a member of the winning ensemble. Freddie Noble was named as the Training Bandperson of the Year and was awarded the British Legion Shield.
