2nd July 2006 Pailton village fete. Another well-organised and well-attended fete, and another chance for your webmastro to collect the traditional jar of Green Bean pickle from Mark's mum and dad. As it was Jack's 9th birthday he (or rather mum and dad) treated us all to a lovely cold birthday beer... good lad!
1st July 2006 Stretton upon Dunsmore village fete. A rapid change of timings to accommodate some sporting thing that was going on in Germany didn't spoil this event a jot - it was a splendid afternoon as always, the weather was scorchio and so was the compere's wit..! Looking forward to next year already.

2nd April 2006
Leicestershire Brass Band Association Festival
Bilton again sent a number of players to the solo, duet and quartet festival at Groby Community College.

Defending Open Quartet Champions, "The Chicken Run Four (Less One and Plus Another)" (Hannah Brown, Judith Hayes, Nigel Howard and Hank Hancox) contributed a catchy and enjoyable performance of "Lord of the Dance", which was well executed and full of character, but unfortunately, to quote the adjudicator, "was too short to be able to write much about" and hence rather too short to reclaim the trophy, gaining 3rd place.

In the Open Slow Melody section, trombonist Nigel Howard was in the frame with third place, and Hannah Brown and Judith Hayes took joint 6th place.

But possibly the best moment of the day was for the training band flugel player, Hayley Williams, duetting with Judith Hayes, flugel player with the senior band. This was 14-year-old Hayley's first ever visit to a contest of this type, and her contribution to their performance of "Laudamus Te" from Vivaldi's Gloria, was deservedly rewarded with a fantastic 4th placing, out of thirteen.

Five brave souls from Bilton Band took part in this popular contest - one quartet and a soloist. In the open quartet section, the Bilton Chicken Run Four (Stuart Fisher (cornet), Hannah Brown (cornet), Nigel Howard (trombone) and Hank Hancox (euphonium)) took first prize with their stylish and fun rendition of "Hootenanny", avoided hitting the fence and brought home some silverware in the process.
Ten-year old Jodie Fisher (cornet) was runner-up in the junior slow melody section, with a musically mature performance of Verdi's Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves, which inspired the adjudicator to comment that Jodie was "a promising young brass player". Hey! We knew that all along here at Bilton!
Well done to everyone who took part.
