Horsefayre Green (in front Leather Bottle)

Horse fairs were held here between 1848-1874. Posts and chains were erected for Queen Victoria's Jubilee 1897. The posts have remained ever since. Crosse House was built in 1634 and was originally a bakery.

Service Lane and Red Rose Lane

This was used as a route for travellers to by-pass the village centre during the Black Death in 1349. It was also used to carry the dead around the outside of the village to Nine Ashes. This was so called after the cremation of the dead killed by the plague. It was estimated that over 300 people died in the epidemic.

The Barge Garage and Pond

The Barge dating back to 1584 has been the site for various businesses including an ale house, sweet shop and today a garage.
The pond, a well known beauty spot, was originally constructed as a watering-hole for cattle going to market and horses travelling between London and East Anglia.

Once a village school this building dates back to 1877. This school had only two classrooms and took children of all ages.
