Service Lane and Red Rose Lane This was used as a route for travellers to by-pass the village centre during the Black Death in 1349. It was also used to carry the dead around the outside of the village to Nine Ashes. This was so called after the cremation of the dead killed by the plague. It was estimated that over 300 people died in the epidemic. |

The Barge Garage and Pond The Barge dating back to 1584 has been the site for various businesses including an ale house, sweet shop and today a garage.The pond, a well known beauty spot, was originally constructed as a watering-hole for cattle going to market and horses travelling between London and East Anglia. |
