Anam's is a new restaurant to appear on to the curry scene in Bradford, and is in residence on Great Horton Road, just a little closer to the town centre from the Mumtaz. The restaurant has been custom built, with an associated car park (entrance on the Bradford side). Money has been spent to give a fresh new appeal, with acres of chrome and wood, and pools of fish sunk into the floor. When we arrived, we were greeted and invited to sit on an arrangement of settees and chairs. We had the option to partake in the buffet (£10.95 per head), or to hot foot upstairs to the balcony for the a la carte menu. We plumped for the former since this area of the restaurant was the most busy. We were seated on one of the last tables available and offered water or a selection of soft drinks from the menu. The entertainment was provided by the nearby fish pool, and a popular Indian film projected onto the back wall. More seriously, the buffet was located in an alcove, and comprised of a large collection of tureens filled with delicious starters, main courses, rice, naan breads and deserts. In a buffet situation, the rating of individual dishes can be quite difficult. People tend to fill up their plates with portions from multiple platters, unable to remember their names when their assessment is required. There were various overall comments from Friday night's diners, such as "Everything was hot, not cold like usual buffets", "Excellent food, well spiced" and "Good quality chicken and lamb pieces". The selection of vegetarian dishes was quite small, but the chef rustled up a "Saag Paneer" especially for our table. Anam's is a new restaurant and will face stiff competition from one of our favourites, the Mumtaz, just up the road. I think its fresh look and its above average buffet is well worth sampling and I recommend you make this one of the list of restaurants to try. |
