We visited this restaurant exactly a year ago, and then we wrote: "On this showing, the Naseeb is a winner. While the menu could be more extensive, and the atmosphere of the place is nothing to write home about, the restaurant serves honest, high-quality curries at reasonable prices. Highly recommended."

And not a lot has changed in the interim. It's still not the most atmospheric of eating places, but the food's very good and Asif, the droll waiter, is just as friendly.

We began with Onion bhaji (£1.20), vegetable pakora (£1.50), and aloo pakora (£1.20). They were excellent, the potato pakora crisp, fresh and succulent, the veg pakora well-cooked and piquantly spiced. Also, the portions were excellent value for money.

For my main dish I had a dall masala. Despite the fact that I felt the lentils were a little undercooked, I rated this dish highly: it was beautifully flavoured, of medium strength, and the portion was fantastic. The dall bhuna was almost identical, (in fact, I couldn't tell them apart.) The chicken jalfrezi was described as, "plentiful, rich and tasty, a dry curry with big chunks of meat.". The mushroom rogan josh gained this response: "Enjoyed it very much - a nice combination of spiciness, quantity, and consistency. The mushrooms were plentiful, well-cooked and tasty."

On average, the price of each curry has risen by around fifty pence, but remain very good value.

We finished off with some better than average milky coffee and good barfi.

While the décor of Naseeb might not win awards, for a good, down-to-earth, honest curry at reasonable prices, this restaurant is hard to beat. If you haven't sampled the fare here, we'd recommend a visit - but avoid the dire pubs on the nearby corners!

We last visited the Naseeb seven months ago, and then we wrote: "All in all we'd recommend that you try the Naseeb; opinion among us was split, but without doubt some of the dishes on offer were as good as the fare served at some of the more expensive, and better known, restaurants in the city."

This time, there was no differing opinions: all of us considered the restaurant one of the best, at the cheaper end of the market, that we've been to in a long time.

It's a big, no-nonsense curry house with little attention given to décor and furnishings. The service is still fast and friendly, the menu still not that extensive.

We began with a good set of starters (and the prices have remained the same since our last visit). Onion bhaji (£1.20), mushroom pakora (£1.80), vegetable pakora (£1.50), and aloo pakora (£1.00). They were all of a pretty high standard - crisp and freshly-cooked: the mushroom pakoras particularly succulent, and the aloo pakoras excellent value at only a pound.

I had a dal and mushroom (not on the menu, but they will customise), and it was delicious. The lentils were of the big, toor variety, cooked to perfection, while the mushroom was plentiful and tasty. (It was not quite up there with the Kashmir's equivalent dish at its best, but not far off.) The vegetable masala was likewise enjoyed: an excellent selection of fresh vegetables in a spicy-hot sauce. The two dhansak dishes, chicken and vegetable respectively, would have scored higher marks had they been a little sweeter and not quite so hot: the quality of the chicken was excellent, and likewise the portion. A feature of all the dishes was the quantity of each serving: positively mounds of the stuff. The chapattis were the best we've sampled for a long time.

We finished with some above-average coffee and excellent barfi.

On this showing, the Naseeb is a winner. While the menu could be more extensive, and the atmosphere of the place is nothing to write home about, the restaurant serves honest, high-quality curries at reasonable prices. Highly recommended.

The Naseeb, directly across the road from Sim's, is a big, functional, no-frills curry house at the cheaper end of the market. The service is fast and friendly, though the menu is not that extensive.

Our starters ranged from the below average to the very good. We had vegetable pakora (£1.50), vegetable samosa (60p), aloo pakora (£1.00), and chicken bhajee (£2.00). The samosa were excellent, fresh spiced vegetables in a crisp, light pastry. The veg and potato pakoras were pretty standard Bradford fare, perfectly acceptable but nothing to rave about. The chicken bhajee was a disappointment; the chicken tough and stringy and the portions small.

The main dishes were likewise varied. Opinion about this restaurant was split between those of us who raved about the main meals, and those who weren't particularly impressed. I was in the former camp. My aloo gobi was one of the best I've sampled in a long while, the potatoes just the right size and cooked to perfection, while the cauliflower was not overcooked (as is often the case with gobi.) The sauce was exceptional, the overall flavour delicious. Likewise appreciated was the Prawn biryani, the prawns succulent and plentiful and the sauce full of flavour. The dal rogan josh was another fine dish, a good portion of spicy-to-hot lentils. Not so good was the dal dhansak - "too sickly sweet" in the opinion of MichaelH. The chicken dopiaza was disappointing, with poor quality chicken and little onion. According to JonF, the chicken rogan josh was a bit tough and too greasy.

We finished with coffee (60p), and excellent barfi.

All in all we'd recommend that you try the Naseeb; opinion among us was split, but without doubt some of the dishes on offer were as good as the fare served at some of the more expensive, and better known, restaurants in the city.
