We've been dining at the Nawaab over a period of five years now, and in that time we've never had a bad meal. The fare has varied - from the good to the excellent - but the restaurant is one that we'd heartily recommend to curry aficionados: a little pricier than your average Bradford curry, but well worth the extra cost.

We started with paneer pakora (£2.50), onion bhaji (£1.95), vegetable samosa (£2.20) and vegetable pakora (£2.20). They were all freshly made, though perhaps a little mild, and they were expensive per portion - though the prices have remained the same since our last visit nearly eighteen months ago.

The main dishes, all in all, were superb. I had tarka dall, and it was the best I've sampled in years: the dall, of the split pea variety, was cooked to perfection, had a rich, mealy texture, and came in a piquant spiced sauce. The tarka dall paneer was the same but for the addition of huge cubes of excellent Asian cheese. The palak paneer was also excellent, with rich, unsoggy spinach and generous portions of paneer - the very best cheese we've sampled in the city. The palak aloo masala with paneer was described as having, "variety which I found unusual for a vegetarian, as I'm usually a meat-eater. The spinach had texture, the paneer served in large chunks and the sauce rich and tasty." The palak aloo masala was described as, "Delicious, a mild, rich dish with the best spinach I've had for ages and potatoes that had fully absorbed the flavour of the curry." The balti muttar paneer was, "Well above average, with nice big pieces of spongy paneer, though the dish was not quite spicy enough for my taste."

All in all, another very good meal. We asked for all the dishes - but for the palak aloo masala - to be cooked apna-style, and they came pleasantly spiced, but not too hot. Our bill came to £9.50 each, including tip, which we thought was decent value for a fine curry experience. Highly recommended.

On our last visit to the Nawaab, we wrote: "All in all, we considered the meal one of the top three or four we've sampled in the city over the past year - and that's no mean recommendation considering that we've each consumed around sixty curries in that time."

This time we had another fine meal - but perhaps not quite up there with the likes of the Mumtaz, the Shah Jehan, or the Darbaar.

There were nine of us on Friday - which might account for the slightly slow delivery of our main dishes - and two of our number were guests from Bangalore, southern India. We started with vegetable pakora (£2.20), paneer tikka (£2.50), vegetable roll (£2.20), and onion bhaji (£1.95). They were all of a high standard, freshly made and delicious. Perhaps the best was the paneer - great chunks of lightly spiced cheese - and the vegetable pakora, light, mouth-watering balls of lightly fried and subtly spiced mixed vegetables.

I had a bindi rogan josh, and an very good example of the dish it was too. Often bindi (lady's finger or okra) can be slimy when cooked, but not in this dish. It was dry, sweet and mildly aromatic: recommended for all bindi addicts. The shahi paneer was a thick, sweet dish consisting of generous portions of cheese in a mild, korma-like sauce. The lamb rogan josh was: "of a 'nice' strength (not too hot), with plenty of tomato flavouring as befits a rogan josh, and plenty of ghee (not too dry). The only slight misgiving was that the meat chunks were small - but the quantity of meat was fine." The balti muttar aloo paneer was exceptional: sweet peas, huge, spongy blocks of paneer, and potatoes diced to the perfect proportions in a wonderful spicy sauce. The balti aloo bengun was a rich dish of perfectly curried potatoes and aubergines which retained their essential taste and were not cooked to a mush. The karahi palak paneer was described as: "Rich, with plenty of tasty chunks of paneer - a good dish which impressed a meat-eater."

Our Indian guests enjoyed their meals - though they did think that the fare was rather on the mild side. But, then, if you've ever sampled a phall in Karnataka, you'll understand why. The balti mili juli sabzi - a mixed vegetable dish in a rich, pungent sauce - was enjoyed, but lost a point for failing to contain bengun (brenjal, or aubergine.) The balti palak paneer was also appreciated, the paneer uniformly excellent, and the spinach wonderfully spiced. All in all, the main dishes were as good as the starters - and the portions were truly generous. (In fact, I took the equivalent of two meals home in a take away tray.)

We'd heartily recommend the Nawaab as a 'must go' stop on the city curry trail. It might be more expensive than your run of the mill restaurant, (our bill came to £11 per person) but we feel it's well worth the extra cost.

It was only a matter of time before we got round to reviewing one of the most popular and talked about Asian restaurants in the city. Nawaabs isn't your average Bradford curry house. It's a table-cloth, knife-and-fork establishment with much Eastern décor and piped muzak. It's up-market, elegant, and on the high side of the price scale - but the consensus of opinion on Friday night was that our meals were well worth every penny.

We began with onion bhaji (£1.95) and chicken pakora (£2,60). It must be said that the bhajis weren't the best we've tasted of late. They were under-done, soggy, and not particularly tasty. The chicken pakora was tasty and thoroughly enjoyed by the meat eaters.

The service was speedy and efficient. Our main dishes arrived in good time and didn't disappoint. I had balti mutter paneer, a good helping of richly spiced peas and excellent Indian cheese; the combination was superb and filling. The shahi paneer (we asked for an extra-mild version) consisted of a rich, mild tomato sauce and a generous portion of paneer - excellent for diners who prefer mild curries. The most enjoyed dish of the night was the chicken special - DavidW reckoned it was the best curry he'd tasted in years: an excellent portion of chicken in a distinctive sauce. The karahi palak paneer combined the right amount of chicken and cheese. The achari lamb was very fine. All in all, we considered the meal one of the top three or four we've sampled in the city over the past year - and that's no mean recommendation considering that we've each consumed around sixty curries in that time. Okay, so the bill did come to around £13.50 each - a bit more than the fiver we normally budget for - and while we wouldn't visit Nawaabs every week, it certainly is a restaurant we'll return to for the occasional treat

We finished the meal with excellent coffee.
