Clint Eastwood

Born: 31 May 1930, San Francisco, California, USA

Although he had a steady job starring as 'Rowdy Yates' in the long running US T.V. series 'Rawhide', Eastwood was having trouble breaking into the big time. When an opportunity arose to work on with an Italian Director on a western, he thought he had nothing to lose. The director was Sergio Leone, the film 'A Fistful of Dollars' and the rest is history. Eastwood became an instant international star.

After working on the Dollars Trilogy, he returned to the States to star in, and often direct, other westerns - but the Italian influence was never far away. He has always been a major box office draw, not least in his role of maverick cop 'Dirty Harry'.

He was justly credited with an Oscar for best director for his 1992 western 'The Unforgiven'.
