Received the Purple Heart when he was wounded in the Korean War.
He first came to fame when Warner Brothers gave him a part in the television series 'Maverick' as Brett Maverick, co-starring opposite Jack Kelly's Bart Maverick.
He was also the star of the successful comedy western 'Support Your Local Sheriff' and the less successful sequal 'Support Your Local Gunfighter'.
Later he achieved great success as TV private eye Jim Rockford in 'The Rockford Files', introducing him to a new generation of fans.
Garner's characters are usually good-natured and likeable. It is therefore refreshing that his only venture into the Spaghetti Western as 'A Man Called Sledge' was in a much darker, grittier role.
Inducted into the Hall of Great Western Performers of the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in 1990.Spaghetti credentials:
